I found books I to IV of Herodotus "Histories" for 20€ in total (used), should I cop it? Is Herodotus fudamental?
>>24681602No, you can get the Oxford World Classics version of the Histories for roughly 12€ off Amazon. It's unabridged, so you won't be missing out on anything.
Depends on the translation but I really doubt itYou should just buy a decent translation from amazon
>>24681635>>24681629I want to read it in my native Spanish though.
>>24681643That looks like a cheap copyLikely sold for those trying to build up an impressive looking library of the classics that they never readI would not buy it if I were youYou know they publish academic translations in Spanish right?
>>24681645But Gredos has the best translations and very complete notes
>>24681643From what brief searching I have done, it appears that the 20€ is your best option.
Read Herodotus because he is as enjoyable as history gets, not because of some sort of reason like “he’s fundamental”, which is just like reading homework. If you are taking a classical studies course then yes he is fundamental to that. But otherwise he should probably just be read if you are either a book junkie or a history junkie and definitely if you are bothI pirate almost all of my books but I am willing to spend that much on a book if I can’t find a digital copy and it is a seriously good book. That absolutely goes for Herodotus if you want to read him Spanish >>24681629The Landmark is the best English edition imo
>>24681971I mean fundamental to understand the western system of thought, which is what I want to do.
