Why does AABB sound so much shittier than ABAB?
It's really obvious when they contrast in a single piece, the 2nd stanza feels like the work of a 3rd grader compared to the 1st and 3rd.

It's because ABAB sounds like a single four-line stanza, while AABB sounds like two couplets, so there's more unity in the first.

I've been writing a long poem about a boy imagining a hypothetical bus trip to go and visit his sister. It's mostly blank verse (with a rhyming couplet at the end of each stanza) but there are a few "bursts" of rhyming instilled (mostly when the characters are conversing—which is to say how he imagines they're conversing); the ones I've written so far have the following rhyme scenes:

>ABABBCBCCBCBCC
>ABABBCBBCDCCDD
As well as a few mid-stanza outbreaks

I've really come to enjoy these more dynamic rhyme schemes that mix up the order more so than the actual rhymes. They have a seamless musicality to them that dances on your tongue while you're reading them.
Been reading the Faerie Queene lately which I think has infected me with its luscious ABABBCBCC.

But to answer your question OP: it's because it sounds like rap music
