Would reading books while I quit my drug and alcohol addiction cold turkey help me to cope with withdrawals? What can I read that can keep my mind occupied?

>>24682114Really anything that is spiritually inspiring and intellectually reinforces virtue. It could be Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, or the Bible.
>>24682114Never had to quit drugs or alcohol, don't know what it's like, but when I had really bad insomnia the only things that could keep my mind occupied were the Parker crime novels by Richard Stark.

>>24682114Cold turkey is a bad idea in every way. If you're an alcoholic do a medical detox or if you don't want to do that order the stuff you will need on the onions (benzos at the bare minimum). If you're an opioid addict get on Bupe or Methadone (I'm on Methadone) if you're a benzo addict taper, if you're a stimulant addict get some benzos. Then you can enjoy reading.
>>24682384Imagine trying to get someone addicted to benzos.
>>24682389If you go into a hospital or a detox centre presenting as alcohol dependent they will 1000% give you benzos! You know why mr moralfag? Because alcohol withdrawal can kill you! Seizures are dangerous, and benzos prevent just that. I used benzos strategically throughout my addictions and I never got physically dependent on them, as do many many many people. Do I think they should be prescribed for anxiety? No. Would I say anyone should use them willy nilly? No. But withdrawal is literally THE time to be using them.
>>24682114depends on the drugs but id bet you cant focus on reading at alleasier to watch or listen to something
