He had style
After a while though he starts getting a bit formulaic.

one of the *best* authors of genre fiction? Ever.
Clive Cussler, author who wrote the Parker series, Sue Graften, Jonathan Kellerman... *all* these later famous authors? ALL credit this man, with why they started writing, and for how they write.
I will in particular recommend "Darker Than Amber" and yes its a Travis McGee series novel. Also? His pre-McGee work. "a Bullet for Cinderella" is a classic.

Where do I start with Travis McGee? Deep blue goodbyes plot doesn’t appeal to me. Any other early ones that are a good starting point?
