I wish I could draw, mainly for the purpose of drawing my favorite characters and scenes from books to visualize my own imagination and make it tangible. Honestly might become my next hobby. Where does one begin learning to draw well?

Just literally try. Then keep trying. You will get better naturally by listening to what your head tells you isn't right.
