i have an idea for a short story. i'm less well-read then i should be, so i don't know if i'm ripping someone off without realizing it. i have a feeling i am. whatever, don't care.so story is about how the gods agree to send a message to humanity for the very first time. it's a message that will convince all of mankind that they are real. to send this message, they literally remake the night sky so that most of the stars go out. the stars that are remaining spell out a message. they send humanity twelve messages, one per night, each written in a different language. i don't want to spoil it but it doesn't end well.anyhoo i'm not sure which languages to use other than mandarin. i was thinking language 2 would be arabic, but i could really go in any direction. what do y'all recommend
>>24685372>y'all
>>24685376y'all fills a gap in english. it's missing a second person plural pronoun. your criticism of my use of y'all only shows us how fucking retarded you are. kys
>>24685382Are you southern?
>>24685392why yes i am, pardner! yee haw! i'm a texan, born and raised. from a lil town called plano, just north of dallas
>>24685382>English is missing a second person plural pronounIts not though. That's what 'you' is. Thou was the second person singular in the nominative case, but English lost the formal pronouns that German and other languages have and we went to 'you' which was that second person plural or formal pronoun for you betters.Y'all became commonly used in business and government because it was nongendered. "You guys" was deemed too offensive to trannies and women, much like how "folks" or "folx" is used Your lack of understanding of this shows you are an ESL and you usage of "y'all" in text indicates you are either an ESL (which you probably are) and learned this from politically correct commiques or you are a nigger.
>>24685403Your parody and ignorance of Texans also shows you are not from the US and are probably ad Asian ESL. If you knew anything about Dallas you would know its filled with niggers. Please adjust your characterure accordingly
>>24685418if you weren't such a raging retard you would know that i'm actually from texas and you're a fucking incel who needs to rope itself
>>24685421Good comeback, Nip.You are clearly as ignorant as your original post implies. You aren't well read and your lack of basic English comprehension shows. Stop trying to be an author and start reading, you utter buffoon
>>24685434if it's done talking, is there anyone else here who'd like to say something?
>>24685435You're welcome for bumping, faggot.Go back to plebbit
>>24685438por que no los dos? 4chan has more in common with plebbit than you might think. for example, you both hate jews
>>24685372Im going to steal your idea Anon and profit millions of of it
>>24686691If already fed it into AI, added a few details and have a book of 280 pages divided into 8 chapters. I will self publish tomorrow. Thanks for the help asshole lol
>>24685435if you are a texan you have to solve this puzzle: the stars at night are big and bright ____
>>24686863>I will self publish tomorrowI am publish this tonight, sir
>>24685372what's the actual story, and are the languages chosen actually important to it? what you've posted here is more of a premise. unless some sort of giga iq linguistics knowledge is involved in the point of the story, readers don't need to know what each of the 12 languages are. just say three or four of the most popular ones and at that point the reader will understand it changes every night and the specific language doesn't need to be specified. (unless of course the languages are important to the story itself--and if that's the case you already have the story in mind and so there's no point to ask here for languages)
>>24686896>I am publish this tonight, sirNo your not. Seriously dickhole I'll have this filed with my publisher by noon tomorrow and there's not a damn that ng you can do to stop me
>>24686892Steers and queera>>24686930I just published it on Amazon. Sorry chubs, but if you snooze you lose.
>>24685382>y'all fills a gap in englishyeah? and you could caulk a bathtub with literal shit. y'all is just barely acceptable when it's spoken with an authentic southern accent. barelyin the written word, it is complete bullshit, and its most often used by retarded urbanites who have no business with it in the first place
Basically any artistic idea you come up with is going to resemble someone else's work.I once thought I had an idea for a story where a rich person owns a deserted island and kidnaps people and sets them free on the island so they can hunt them. It was inspired by the Oakley guy who has a private island in WA or BC or something where he imports exotic animals to hunt. Then I found out about The Most Dangerous Game.
>>24687462>The Most Dangerous Game. You mean The Pest
>>24685372You could just go with, say, de Swaan's 12 supercentral languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Malay, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swahili).
>>24685411Historically, yes, "you" was plural, but then "thou" disappeared so "you" became ambiguous for number. Therefore "y'all" fills a gap because there is no pronoun that is specifically plural rather than being ambiguous between singular and plural.
>>24688929>Historically, yes, "you" was pluralit still is. in any classroom the professor/instructor/teacher says "you">ambiguous between singular and pluralits context based. colloquially people say "you all," "you guys," "youns," and "y'all" (among other regional variations). Y'all does not fill a gap. The only reason it is used outside of the south is that gender neutral (compare "you guys") and niggerese, both are why urbanites and lefties in the US government eat it up, but as >>24687429 said, its complete bullshit in the written word unless you are going with a vernacular thing
>>24689014So how do you propose to distinguish between the singular and plural second person in the few cases where it's not clear by context? That's something standard English just doesn't have.
>>24685434CONSOOOOOM, producing anything of your can only be done once you've read every book ofc.
>>24689026>doesn't know the rules>tries to produce when he doesn't know the baseline>doesn't know if idea has been already written/drawn>proceeds to create another hero journey of boy fulfilling prophecy, but his is different because profanitynot every book, but you cannot write without reading. simple as
>>24687429It's a regional dialect, get over itI'll say "Wudder y'all doin' t'day?" and you can't stop me
>>24689019how would it not be clear by context? People have hands and eyes to indicate things (and spics and flips use their lips). >three people sitting in a room with boss>boss says "you" addressing all three>boss says "you two" or "you both" indicating two or identifies them by name>boss says "you" indicating single individual or calls that person by name Your hands aren't tied when you write. Also, why are you freaking out so much over the use of second person pronouns? Are you a tranny? If you are writing, occasionally remind the reader of the character's name to make the subject clearer, too many pronouns make the prose cluttered and confusing. Not hard>>24689034>I'll sayno one is stopping you, nigger. just stop using it in professional writing.can you kindly fuck off and get back to your sky demon story?
>>24689032I still have more respect for a person producing basic slop than for those who get too hung up on rules to ever get going. Not a lot of respect of course but, eh. Also, the first thing to be penned by anyone is likely to be trash. The story itself is not a big concern with a first project, just getting the process down is enough. If you know how to get from point A to point B then you can focus on doing it with more eloquence next go around.
>>24689049How would you write nonfiction without reading?
>>24689055What are you even going on about? Aren't we discussing fiction here? But I'll bite, a journal.. that's non fictional writing, I mean you could certainly cross over into fiction if you are delusional enough or just prefer to record your fantasies and dreams.. Describing a tree?
>>24689070Stop acting so haughty. Are you in high school or did you just start uni?We never discussed fiction specifically. The thread is about your fiction project, but the topic has been derailed. I assume it was you said who said "CONSOOOOOM" here >>24689026, mocking reading. Suggesting reading isn't worth your time.I asked how can one write nonfiction if they don't read. Why are you giving fiction writers a pass? Because you claim to be one and you don't read? You are aware that the majority of fiction writers have written nonfiction?
>>24689048>how would it not be clear by context? People have hands and eyes to indicate thingsYou can't do that in writing- so it's precisely in writing that such a distinction is more necessary!
