What does /lit/ think of this hidden gem? It's not as well known as The War of The Worlds or The Time Machine, but still has Wells' typical anti-imperalism message. A pity no adaptation got close to the original idea.
>>24685671Never understood if the beastmen reversed fully or just in mind. Also, it's weird hmofa hasn't done anything with it.
The best thing to come out of this novel is the behind the scenes accounts of the making of the Brando film
>>24686067The original plan was much better, although it was a tad too mature for my tastes. Anyway, I wonder how did Wells picture the beastmen in his head. Like Lost Souls? 1977?
Imagine if vivisection really could be used to uplift animals in the late 19th century, the armies of british manbeasts supressing the colonies.
love it. perhaps the only horror novel to actually unnerve me, and hg wells is a great novelist in general. not for any message though. also it probably influenced a lot of "meeting a talked about man" type novels like heart of darkness.
>>24685671>hidden gem>there have been a dozen film adaptations, several television episodes from an array of series playing on it, and even music videos
>>24686271>manbeastsThose were mostly used to pick cotton.
>>24687454Yeah, but those would rebel if you gave them guns. Mentally conditioned beastmen would stay loyal to the end... so long you cow them and until they start reverting.>>246874511932 was too horror, 1977 was still not perfect, 1996 was a fuckfest.
