I’m on a Rome kick and I’d like novels set in Rome or other ancient civilizations. Ones I’ve read so far:Marcus Didius Falco series: >early imperial Rome. A detective woos a Roman noble woman and works as the emperors go-to investigator. Mostly good low stakes detective stories with a lot of humor and a very sweet romance. 8/10Roma Sub Rosa:>late Republican Rome. A detective with a cozy dilapidated manor in the middle of the city tries to maintain it by taking on investigation jobs for the city’s greats. Really delves into the darker and crueler side of Rome while not neglecting its splendor. The protag has worked for Cicero and Crassus so far. Both were really well drawn. Protag also has an Egyptian bang slave who loves cats and giving blowjobs. 9/10SPQR:>Late Republican Rome. Roman minor nobleman investigates threats against the Roman state. Much lighter than the previous two series but still very good. 7/10Master of Rome: >late Republican Rome. Follows the lives of the powerful men and women who fucked the republic. Very entertaining with an insane attention to historical detail. First book follows Marius and Sulla and their initial partnership. 10/10Give me recommendations or ask me any questions about the above series.
