It was the Renascence era, where artists rediscovered and gave new appraisal to Antiquity - not only its architecture but also in literature. Antiquity would also be used to legitimise the people that already lived in a place for centuries. I recognize that guy, he's the bane of all portuguese highschoolers who didnt choose humanities but are still forced to get good grades in portuguese lit to make it to university
