In Plato's Allegory of the Cave, people are chained, mistaking shadows on a wall for reality. A philosopher escapes into the sunlight and sees the true world for the first time.

The Question: Are prophets and mystics the ones who have escaped the cave? Is God the "sun" outside, the source of all truth, reality, and goodness that is too brilliant to look at directly?
