Is Blood Meridian a fanfic? And, if so, when does a novel become its own thing if based on an already existing body of histories?
most "literary" literature does this, pynchon, delilo, vollman, etc. personally i find it annoying it's like autofiction but you're not even making up stuff about yourself but some historical dude u don't know. still, if the author is good, i won't deny it.
