Thoughts on this series? How many of you have also read Wind Through the Keyhole and what did you think of that one?
>>24692811I read the first 3 or 4 books of the series and then lost interestIt started out kinda cool, this Clint Eastwood guy going after this evil wizard in a fantasy world, but idk why I lost interest
>>24692829Book 4 is a big gay background story about his teenage love so that‘s a likely candidate
>>24692811I read the whole series a few years ago. I wish I never. Are there any "fantasy books set in the Wild West" books that are actually good?
Something about Wizard and Glass was ass in the beginning so I stopped reading it
>>24692829Exact same thing happened to me>GunslingerPulpy western with fantasy elements, good quick read>Drawing of the ThreeDimension hopping assembling the party, weird enough to be interesting>Waste LandsSharp decline in quality, fantasy elements becoming corny ridiculous scenarios and characters>Wizard and GlassChildhood flashbacks removing whatever mystique was left, dropped a couple hundred pages in. Even on the second book I was disappointed in the direction the series was going. Tried to hang on but it got progressively worse. I remember being mad because of the wasted potential. W&G is like if Sergio Leone released a fourth movie showing how Clint Eastwood became the Man with no Name, just deflates the entire premise.
>>24692811Bailed on book 2, when it became clear King was just a typical nigger worshipper
>>24692811Unlike other anons in the thread I loved Wizard and Glass, it was a refreshing detour to a cozy background narrative which was complete on its own. It also fits the "western post-apocalypse" vibe better than any other book in the series.Sharp decline in quality from there until the end. The final book has some redeeming sections but I've never seen a worse ending to a fantasy series. You are supposed to have all the good guys gather together and fight all the bad guys in an epic final battle. Everyone knows this. Yet King decided to be "original" and remove any tension or intrigue from the last confrontations. Plus it gets super weird the more he includes references to his other work to make it into a Stephen King multiverse kind of thing, including a literal self-insert. It's good marketing since 90% of people who stick that far with the series are Stephen King fans already but it makes for bad storytelling.
The idea of it is better than the final product
>>24692845Yeah, I think that's what it was that made me lose interest Plus, I thought the first book started out so good, and then from then on, it just seemed like it wasn't ever going to be as good as the first one
>>24692811Is DT the the sole source of the "Stephen King can't write endings" meme?
>>24692811Read the first book, thought it was okay. Haven't felt any real desire to read the others other than the sick cover art of book 3.
>>24692811It's supposed to be his great work, the overarc tie it all together make it make sense retcon Mary Sue that puts a bow on his literary universe. It's not. It starts off really cool but the last half of it just kind of sucks. Kings best work is the little mini lit uni in which the events of multiple books orbit a solar eclipse over that lake town or island city, I forget exactly, the Delores Claiborne, Geralds Game ... Dark House stuff was good too. He should have kept tying in Randall Flagg and the man in black to everything and circling back to Roland in different timelines and iterations as the recurring theme, but he didn't, and now he's gonna pay baby.
>>24693604No, that's every Steven King book.
>>24693604Nah fans hate trying to defend "that scene" from the end of "IT" and no one tries to defend the literal hand of God from The Stand.
>>24693889Aside from the weird underage gangbang I though It had a good ending, for a King novel.
The Gunslinger and Wizard and Glass are very goodThe Drawing of the Three is good, entertaining at least, although the Susannah parts are a slogThe rest is terrible
>>24693604No, it's a general observation you'll arrive at if you read 3 or more of his books. His endings are either a sudden wrap up that doesn't feel like a pay off or the most predictable thing you can imagine (Dark Tower is a mix of both).
For me it's1>4>3>5>6>2>7Contrary to many, I didn't found the dimension jumping of the second that much fun and I didn't like it that it was just a way to "assemble" the party and moving the story onward very little
>>24692811I hated 7, more so than 6, and I really hated 6. I was always told that the WTtK should be read after 7, like you're reading through a photo album of a better time, but I was so sour I've just not gone back to it.I'm surprised there's so much hate for W&G in this thread. I thought it was way better than 3, and actually showed us a flash into a part of Rolands history. There's loads of mystique left to be explored, or left up to your imagination.
>>246949234 > 1 > 2 > 3 > 5 > 6 > 7 7 might be bad, but it wasn't as bad as Eddie out beating Blaine with retarded Reddit humour. That was such a great opportunity to do some fun riddle shit with Roland, who we've known is one of the best riddlers in his town, famous for being amazing riddler masters.
1 > 3 > 5 > 4 > 2 > 7 > 6I enjoy the parts of Wolves that are just Magnificent Seven plus robots, and i liked Father Callahan. W&G is okay but it goes on too long and has even lamer villains than usual for King.
>>24692845>>24693566Book 4 is my favorite. Although, I will say, in terms of atmosphere, the series really does peak in book 1.
>>24692845Four is arguably the best one.
>>24694923>I was always told that the WTtK should be read after 7,You were told wrong. It goes in between 4 and 5.
>>24695239>and i liked Father CallahanHis backstory was such a slog to read through.>muh gay lover>muh rehab facility>muh low men>muh back roads
I tought I had to read all the books that are related to the dark tower seriesI stopped after I realized I had to read IT just to get some reference in the fifth book
