I'm starting a creative writing degree as a mature student and most people don't say it, but I can tell they think it's a waste of time.I honestly don't give a shit, I just want to be around people that care about writing and if I make anything of myself through it, that is a bonus.

You will be surrounded by likeminded people who will give you you good-faith critique for you to improve. And having someone other than yourself stare at your work is probably something most people here would kill for.
