If an early Christian was in his brain how did he write Valis? Wouldn’t science fiction concepts be nonsense to Thomas?
>>
Mystical inspiration meets modern sensibility. No big mystery here.

Their minds coexisted, much like our time exists overlayed over 1st century BC time
>>
>>
>>24696285
The people trying to take over the world think science fiction is real
>>
>>24696285
Explains why everyone I know doesn't like science fiction
>>
>>24696277
Science fiction concepts are Early Christian concepts. The empire never ended.

Remember how they had a guy levitating over water, synthesizing and transmuting organic matter, regenerating from dead tissues and transmitting this regenerative property on other organisms?

The jewish fairytales aren't real? Dad, why is he saying that?
>>
>>24696277
the answer to any PKD questions is "methamphetamine psychosis."

based

>>24696378
You are unaware of reality.
>>
>>24696392
That's more like it. Taking the jewish fairytales as historical events is extremely sophisticated, isn't it? You are so wise (gullible)!
>>
>>24696398
>historical events
No such thing. "History" implies progression of time.
>>
>>24696285
I like pkd but this is retarded elitist bullshit. Sci fi is for people who don't want to face reality, much like fantasy
>>
>>24697803
>I enjoy PKD, but this sounds like elitist nonsense to me. I experience sci-fi as something that often attracts people who prefer to avoid confronting reality, similar to how fantasy does for some.
>>
If you understand Orthodox theology you'll see PKD wasn't wrong in a sense
>>
>>24697884
literature for understanding orthodox theology?

First read Revelation, the Johannine epistles and the Septuagint Old Testament (especially Genesis) if you haven't already
Then you can look into On the Life of Moses by Gregory of Nyssa, Ambigua and Questions to Thalassius by Maximus the Confessor and Palamas' Homilies
Among secondary interpretative works that aren't early Church patristics, there's the following:
>The Mystery of Christ by John Behr
>Being as Communion by John Zizioulas
>For the Life of the World and Of Water and the Spirit by Alexander Schmemann
>The Experience of God by Dumitru Staniloae
There are others, but that should suffice. The idea being that cyclical or kairotic time in Orthodox thought is linked to liturgy and eschatology with each Eucharist actualizing the one sacrifice yet in recurring anamnesis. The Orthodox eschatological model is Revelation as both a once-for-all event and a perpetually re-presented reality, history is a series of typological cycles moving toward eschaton and not linear closure

time almost progressed a few times and it still might
>>

because he didn't write scifi. it was metaphoric.
>>
Anyone read the Exegesis?

I think that collectively we're still trying to get a handle on it. It's still 50+ years ahead of us. scifi was just the best vehicle for him to put it in at the time. Similar to Rod Serling not knowing or caring about scifi but put his stories in that genre to give people some distance. Roddenberry too.
