Is there magic without Aleister Crowley? Why chaos magic never evolved after it was conceived by Carroll even though it denounces dogmatism?I am looking for works that psychologically explore the benefits of irrational rituals and superstitions, as something constructive to one's own purpose in life, rather than getting lost in sex and drugs. Possible?
>>24697247it's called alchemy. chaos magic is left hand path bullshit.
>>24697272OP here.Do you read any modern book on Alchemy? I'm looking into Jodorowsky's Psychomagic right now.I want to explore alternatives, as I was quitting weed I realized the role of habitual thoughts in enforcing or attenuating a present addiction. I successfully got away from it through some intuitions of my own and had this a idea that a new body of metaphors could be introduced through irrational rituals to fuel the battle against addictions.
>>24697332>I want to explore alternatives, as I was quitting weed I realized the role of habitual thoughts in enforcing or attenuating a present addictionYou can do that without relying on simulated schizophrenia mainstreamed by an early 20th century troon and further degraded by marginalized speedfreaks of the 80s.Go to a Buddhist school and meditate. This will give you the ability to observe your thoughts from an impartial perspective. Buddhist ethics will give you exercises and guidelines to instill new and better thoughts. Traditional religions have already figured out your problem centuries ago. As a general rule, relying on magic and occultism to quit addiction is pointless since all the major, and not so major, personalities were addicted and used drugs heavily>Crowley>Polydrug abuser; was addicted to cocaine; died addicted to heroin>Chaos Magicians>The whole pharmacy available in the 80s>Chumbley>Tropane alkaloidsThe whole history of modern magic is a history of druggies using drugs and selling drug induced delirium as visions from the higher world. You'll be better off with Buddhism since it has a strict sobriety policy - no intoxicants allowed.

>>24697332fulcanelli and tromberg are interesting. schwaller de lubicz was also making some interesting work as far as egyptian esotericism is concerned, stuff relating to architecture and the human body. as far as novelists go, brion gysin and dion fortune (talking about her novels only) were onto something. jodorowsky was a hack desu, had a knack for imagery but that's about it.my question to you why have you focused on magic and alchemy as a means to free yourself from your addictions? you should just stick with high quality psychology instead imo, stuff like james hillman and obviously jung, because this occult shit is no joke, and someone in a vulnerable position is very liable to slip up and make a terrible mistake that could stain one's soul forever. as with any book, take everything with a grain of salt, and don't just follow any practices that might be suggested. beware. and one last thing, irrational rituals is code for religious thinking, and i think it'd be wise not be allergic to it. religious meditation works, whether it's in a stereotypically buddhist, christian (church fathers' focus on stillness), or muslim (the heavy emphasis on dhikr -reminescence-) context.
