And also what should I have read to understand his work.
A Lume Spento
>>24699716You have to know EnglishRead Cathay or Persona or go straight to the first Cantos
For poetry id start with Hugh Selwyn Mauberley and Personae then jump straight into the Cantos without any supplementary material. Don't be afraid to jump around. The last Cantos are magical and very different from anything that came before For criticism I would recommend the ABCs of Reading. My one bit of advice would be to have read at least a little bit of Browning beforehand. Any of the popular works will do.

>>24699716Yeah, get Personae for his non-Cantos poems and the ABC of Reading if you want a digestible rundown of his poetics and literary project.
>>24699716Don't even think about Pound until you know Ancient Greek, Latin, and Italian.

>>24699716The other day I was visiting the USA and I went into a Barnes & Noble to see if I saw anything I'd like to get.The poetry section was sad, only two shelves. There was nothing by Ezra Pound.Has he been expelled from mainstream American bookstores because he was a fascist?I got Emily Dickinson instead.
Either Exultations (more even quality throughout) or Personae (higher highs,) Cathay, and Hugh Selwyn Mauberley.

>>24699716Read his early poems starting with A Lume Spento, etc. and then read Unwobbling Pivot. Prior to this, be versed into the works of Confucius, Cavalcanti, and Eriugena. Then finally read his Cantos.
