Honestly, Stephen King is going down with equal importance to say a Dostoyevsky.

Yes
Seriously, are there any contemporary """"literary"""" fiction writers that come even close to matching the King? His finger was almost presciently on the pulse of the zeitgeist, his understanding of the 20th century everyday American psyche, his symbolic language, his provocative themes and ideas. All of it is unmatched.
History will vindicate the airport sloppa and crucify the sacred cows of critics and academics.

Dosto? No. He will be remembered on par with bram stoker or someone like that however
>>
>>24700775
I haven't read any of it but as far as I am aware it is slop. Good slop, but pulpy slop nonetheless. Nothing of high art, ground-breaking or revolutionary.

He also wrote a child-gang bang, so there is that.
>>
Who is this dovstovsky guy? I’m sorry I am new to this board.

What metric? Engagement? Cat videos weigh more than both.

Dostoslopsky? He was an orthobro. They are aware there is no eternal truth and don't pretend to have any, it's literally just something to think about before dying in becoming. You have to throw up an orthobro salute. No reason allowed since they aren't Christians and might possess heretical beliefs they can outbro Jesus.
>>
>>24701037
I just read a bit and him and it says he was a communist before prison… well, I am glad he returned to the word of god. But Stephen Kimg just has to be a better writer I mean have you seen IT?
>>
>>24701055
Yeah that's the problem with trying to outbro Jesus. No orthobro is a christian. Slopsky was whatever he was told to be.

King is good, he's alright, fine. I don't like how much he swears tho. 19th century literature turnt me into a prude, the more an authors swears or uses smut the less favourable of an impression they give me. Books can include graphic scenes and themes without being overly gritty. I'm inclined to call it unnecessary, because a good writer can describe an awful situation without having to describe the texture of brains or the hardness of a quivering cock or whatever. King is a potty mouth and that bothers me. People should swear less.

So you’re saying Stephen kind isn’t the better writer? I don’t believe you. How come this is my first time hearing about dostosky then?
>>
He'll be largely forgotten like Harold Robbins/Georges Simenon within 20-30 years after his death.

>>24701129
who?

Exactly. Two all-time bestselling authors who have been dead for a few decades.

I have read or listened to most of King's books.I don't think he is a Hemingway or a Steinbeck. The writing is simple.

There may be a few novels or stories that disappoint. Reading his whole library boils down to a year of my existence. I would not trade that year for anything. I am the "dear constant reader." His auto biography "On Writing" is his best work. His politics are wrong.

He will be known as the GOAT in 50 years.

I reread a bunch of his books. I remember I loved them as a kid, but now they bore me to death, all his characters feel incredibly samey and his endings are always ass (except Pet Semetery)
>>
>>24700775
We would be better off if we held Dostoevsky to the same level of esteem that we do King. In many ways he is is the superior of that silly Russian mystic.

Stephen King is like "oooOooh let's come up with a spooky gimmick to entice middle aged housewives, and then ramble on about an unnecessarily convoluted plot that ultimately says very little of value"
