Faulkner's adjective-laden and overly descriptive scene-setting is rather Conrad-esque imo. It's just cloaked in southern colloquialisms, an unending stream of consciousness, and a complete disregard for punctuation. Hemingway is less guilty of it, but he still did it from time to time, and usually to make a thematic or narrative point.
