How can I read comfortably for long periods of time? I've been reading in my bed for a while now but starting to notice neck pains and at night I end up falling asleep within 30 mins. Now I'm looking into getting a desk or a comfy chair built for extended periods of sitting and need some advice. Post your reading spaces/corners.
>>24702720Bed is mostly for sleeping (and fucking, but no one does that here), so reading there isn't 'optimal'. Also uncomfortable. The best position for reading is just sitting. Either on a sofa or just the desk. I currently don't have a sofa. So just a basic student dormitory chair and desk. Sitting upright like one would do in school or university for hours. If I am reading a bigger book, I might put something under there, so the top is elevated. The book is in a similar position as it would be on a lectern. Helps my neck.
i mainly read on my bed, changing position from back to belly to side whenever I feel like it.get enough pillows or blankets to support your back and neck and it shouldn't be too harsh.however, if you're willing to for the best possible reading position, get some great armchair and buy a book holder stand like picrel
>>24702720Have you tried different positions? You don't just have to be craning down on a book you know as if you are in a regular chair but with legs outstretched. You could slide way down so your body is mostly flat in bed and head propped by a pillow for example. E-readers also allow you to literally read on your side and poke the screen with your nose to turn the page. You can put a pillow on your legs or chest (depending on your position) to cushion the book and hold it and just use your hands to rest it slightly open. I believe they even have cushion like book holder things if you are too lazy to even hold the book open. Just squirm about in your bed a bit and use pillows to see different postures. You can attain some impressive almost fetal positions if you want.
The Pomodoro Technique helps me a lot. I take breaks and walk around, look at the trees, get fresh air. Keeps me from getting mentally burnt out.
>>24702720Either walk outside with a smart posture to correct your neck issues, or buy a book wheel like the rest of us.
>>24702720A tip I took from Goethe was to never try to read on something comfortable. When I read on my recliner Id get through about 10 pages before I want to put the book down and relax. So I got an old chair from the 30s, no cushion whatsoever, only wood. But ever since I got it I’ve been reading far more. Well, this is what worked for me, maybe you can try it.
>>24706055honestly not a bad tip, i often start falling asleep while reading on my too comfy sofa
I read in my backyard in a lawn chair

"i got a 'hell yea' from drake"-lookin' boy. basically, boy, what i'm saying is "you're never gonna be capable of keepin' up at the same pace" lookin' boy. Only brownoids need to take a break every half-hour.
