I’m autistically obsessed with Spengler and his cycles of culture and prime symbolsWhat other stuff is there like this?
>>24709327Toynbee, Quigley, Danilevsky
He is wildly inaccurate in so many things but his work has an almost irrational appeal. It is a great work of poetry first and foremost. Worthy of reading and deep, dedicated study. It was groundbreaking in its rejection of linear history, the progress narrative and eurocentrism
You're ready for Imperium
>>24709327Mircea Eliade if you want to go even deeper get picrel and The Sacred And The Profane
>>24709664in all honesty eliade is just a cheap ripoff of guenon, somehow rené manages to be more open minded and less dogmatic, eliade just has more streed cred because he had a desk at the university of chicago
>>24711054Guenon is an easternizer and corrupter. Why anyone outside of irrelevant third world shit holes follow him is beyond me.
>>24711057most of eliades "morphology" is just generalization of hindu and vedic religions, i dont know how can you attack guenon on those grounds, as an example the concept of center of the world in guenon is mystical and abstract much more akin to the swastica and aristotelian "immobile motor", in eliade the center of the world is just the world tree and a theological universal of a spot connected to the three realms (underworld our world and heaven) that is not even universal, in j.z. smith "to take place" and cohn "sacred mountain" they provide lots of example on why eliades conception is just based on a faulty generalization. Instead guenon in "King of the World, Symbolism of the Cross and Symbols of the Sacred Science" considers the center of the world not a real theologial construct present in different religion but both a law of the cosmos and a "Perennial" symbols found the world over, in each culture, but with radically different forms and conclusions. If you like spengler i consider guenon a much more worthy read than eliade if you dont care too much about street cred, im not saying that eliade is not worth a read ( i own all of his books)
>>24711071Guenon was a freemason that converted to Islam. That's two reasons also not to like him.
>>24711074guenon condemned freemasonry and theosophy in his later works, in king of the world he even makes fun of Blavatsky. i agree that his conversion to islam is a disgrace but nobody is perfect
>>24709327Id recommend these authors of you really like Spengler.Amaury De RiencourtPeter turchin Arnold ToynbeeWilliam Mc Neil Christopher Dawson Carrol QuigleyWill Durant John Glubb
>>24711057Nobody in the west does. He's purely for freaks and gypsy scum.
>>24709327Pitirim Sorokin Robert BoltonThese also talk about historical cycles
>>24709327hearing about spengler's was how i first came to appreciate a concept of artistic achievement outside that of the individual artist, and it was one of my earliest introductions to the works of other cultures. i'll always think fondly of him for that reason.
