I love you Anna's Archive <3 thank you for all the books

Will SciHub ever allow uploads again?
>>

Nice try fed, I won't spill the other places I use to download books
>>
I've already backed up like 50gb of ePubs, more than I'll ever be able to read in a lifetime, so I don't even give a shit about book piracy anymore, but I prefer that new one that starts with a W, unless I'm going on a hoarding spree and downloading a bunch of titles, in which case I use Anna's and a wget script I wrote.
>>
>>24713937
please, the police don't give a fuck about you downloading another copy of infinite jest
>>24713954
what's the one that starts with a W? I'm only familiar with AA, Z-Archive, and libgen
>>
>>24713958
I was gonna be Jewish and not share it, but it's WeLib.org. You can actually download through the browser, instead of needing to use wget, or Jdownload or some other download manager, because the server speeds are quite nice.
>>
>>24713961
WeLib smells like an Anna's Archive mirror/copy
>>
>>24713966
It is
>>
>>24713966
It is, and Anna's hates them for it. They also have some beef about sharing data. I don't give a shit, though, you can download a 50mb PDF in 30 seconds, whereas Anna's takes 2 hours and fails multiple times during the process. The oly downside is the restrictive wait time, which makes it only good for grabbing a title or two quickly here and there.

Didn't know about WeLib, thx anon. Checking on the AA updates page
>There is a new entrant: WeLib. They appear to have mirrored most of our collection, and use a fork of our codebase. We have copied some of their user interface improvements, and are grateful for that push. Sadly, we are not seeing them share any new collections, nor share their codebase improvements. Since they haven’t shown commitment to contributing back to the ecosystem, we advise extreme caution. We recommend not using them.
Disappointing they're not sharing new collections or sharing their codebase, but I'm always happy to see another shadow library go up. Especially if they contain new books/files. Got a download manager you recommend?

I just use a wget script I had chatgpt write for me and launch it in the terminal. I think Jdownload is what the Windows people genenrally use.
>>
>>24713926
Good thread OP thanks. Can someone recommend a good, free epub/PDF reader? Is Aquile Reader any good for that?
>>
>>24713991
I downloaded a cracked version of IceCream off thepiratebay, and it was pretty nice. Unfortunately, I feel like Kindle and even something like Google Play Books web interface are some of the best readers available.
>>
>>24713977
Gotcha, I'll give Jdownload a shot. Also
>50gb of ePubs
What the hell are you downloading, anon? This must be tens of thousands of books
>>
>>24714011
Everything. The complete Gutenburg archive, tons of Puritan theology, non-fiction and fiction.

A quarter million titles backed up in triplicate, yet I'm lucky to read more than a dozen titles per year, lol.
>>
>>24713991
Okular for pdf is fantastic
>>
>>24713926
Love Anna and her library. I like Dasha too.
>>
>>24714057
I can just feel that you're a tourist from the r/rsbookclub post about Schattenfroh
>>
any epub/pdf readers that have the instant dictionary/translation popup functionality for when reading foreign languages (german, french and japanese specifically)?
>>
>>24714083
Dictionay definition as a popup on double click is a must have for me.. I think Libera or KOReader had this option, but you'd have to download your own dictionary from the dict.org archive or something
>>
>>24714092
>>24714083
I know for sure Aquile Reader has dictionary on double click, it's the one I use. I don't think it has an automatic translation function but then again I've never tried. It does have a lookup function though, maybe you can rig something that automatically searches AR lookups on google translate/chatGPT or something

Is Monoskop still even maintained anymore? So shit to use and navigate. Really wish it was better because it fills a very, very specific niche
>>
>>24714242
no clue. basically any canonical crit theory text is on there but it's such a fucking pain to use
>>
>>24713926
SciHub lost its court case in India a few weeks ago. I don't know what that means for the whole site but I know SciHub's creator said she was considering turning uploads off entirely
>>
>>24713926
Piracy is a sin, anon
>>
>>24713954
Yeah, same. I already have everything i'm interested in reading in my lifetime. It must suck dick for anyone that won't be able to figure it out once its all gone.
>>
>>24716032
Kike hands typed this.
>>
>>24716032
How do you figure? There mentions of copyright laws and the internet in your book of worship of choice?

Is it worth getting an external hard drive for ebooks and pdfs or is that retarded
>>
>>24717709
Only if you intend to hoard rare scanned books or something. Pictures take a lot of room, but text files not so much. To give you an idea my library is a few MBs shy of 10GB and I have 2600 books.
