At what point, if any, can a comic book be considered literature?
>>
>>24718709
At no point
>>
>>24718732
Clearly you have not read Sonichu
>>
Comics are a subset of literature. Simple as.

Has there ever been a more scathing critique of power in all of literary history?
>>
There is no substantial difference between comics and the work of William Blake
>>
At the point they can effectively be analyzed through the tools of literary criticism, which pretty much means the pictures serve no real purpose and they wouldn't be much of a comic book. Being literature does not instantly make something better, whole lot of shit lit out there.

This is the thing
One does not simply read Sonichu
It is such a clusterfuck of fiction, autobiography, political/spiritual manifesto, and references to other media that no one who reads the comic can walk away understanding even 10% of what they have just consumed. It requires a deep understanding of the authors life, worldview and the random disparate IPs he was into at the time. If there was a version of Sonichu with footnotes it would be as long as Infinite Jest.

Where do I start with the Chris-chan œuvre?
>>
>>24718796
William Blake wrote poetry and drew much more sophisticated artwork than comics.
>>
>>24718843
The list of media one needs to be familiar with to understand the fullness of Sonichu is long and diverse. Use this as your guide
https://sonichu.com/cwcki/Things_Chris_has_ripped_off
The holy trinity being Pokémon (mainly season 1), Sonic the Hedgehog (the 90s cartoon) and Excel Saga.
Of course, also required are Chris’ web captains logs, and his leaked chats and with various characters, and random other journalistic artefacts of his life.
Sonichu 1-6 are the most esoteric, as they predate Chris’ infamy and the singular source for what any of this shit means is primarily just Chris himself whereas the later works are in large part just novelisations of online drama as parsed through Chris’ dreamworld.
For all artistic purposes Sonichu may as well end at Sonichu 11, Sonichu 12 at the latest. Everything after that is just milking Patreon and often even ghostwritten by other people.

Just found out Tails Gets Trolled is still going and now has 29.5 chapters

>after words
No novel has so succinctly and eloquently played with language to this extent.

Afterwards, as in a point later in time. After words….a metatextual reference to the fact that this is occurring AFTER the words “I’m telling you man.” This is AFTER the telling. What happens after before you tell? You show. Show and tell.

There are layers within this that too few of you could possibly comprehend.

You’re joking but Chris Chan will be the Samuel Pepys of our generation.

Since humans began recording things on the walls of French caves, no single human life has been documented or examined as closely as Chris Chan’s. Serious people will study his life as an unfiltered extremely detailed primary source for this point in history.

It's impossible to search for on Amazon, otherwise I wouldn't link it, but Tails Gets Trolled has a physical release https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMD6X7SJ
It's easily places in the Western Canon but idk if it's/lit/

TGT peaks hard in chapter 1, when it loses all plausibility that it’s not ironic it’s over.

Literature until proven otherwise.

I agree. Still, gotta admit that pretending to be retarded for a decade without breaking character is pretty impressive too.

It's extremely obvious from just looking at this that its author is mentally "there". Like, they're a sane human with an actual worldview that they are cognizant of, and that they are perfectly capable of portraying the attitudes of individual characters through linework and paneling. It's nothing like looking at the work of a genuinely mentally deranged person dominated by delusion like Chris-chan.

This lecture is a pretty good and entertaining overview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFOIauPQ5XI
note that it only covers Chris's life up to 2016, and therefore doesn't cover stuff like the Idea Guys or the Incest/Jail Saga. nevertheless, it covers most of the comics and the life events behind them.

Honestly it's kind of primal how he's tapping into the biological imperative to repeat your genes, respect only those who share your genes, and protect your own genes from the genes of others (jerks).
He cares not for the cries of the manajerks. He needs only himself, the bloodline of the father, and his will to externalise his imperative onto the shoppers (women) of the world.

Corto Maltese is literature, and i am willing to die on this hill.
>>
>>24718709
Never
I also don't think plays are literature and it's a waste of time to read them
>>
>>24718796
Blake was pretty much the Chris Chan of his era. Leaving aside the schizophrenia, interest in art, and creation of quasi-Christian mythologies, you could argue that Blake's understanding of the Poetic Genius verges towards Chris's idea that the imagination perceives real entities.

>women only have shopping on their minds

The daring thought that both Marx and Engels dared not to think. Capitalism is the fault of women.
>>
>>24718950
Maybe the earlier parts of his saga. Anything past Bob's death is pretty forgettable (except for one thing, I'm sure you know what I mean)
>>
>>24721142
The idea guys shit is boring as fuck. Granted shagging his mum and going to jail was pretty epic. But that’s like 2 weeks of kino amidst an endless sea of raw turgid autism. It’s basically just a Sonichu themed version of the same esoteric messiah complex shit that washes up on /x/ everyday.
>>
>>24723536
oh I totally agree
not only that, but Chris basically stopped writing after a certain point and therefore his life after 2016 is basically irrelevant to this discussion (unless you really care about the comics he finished in 2017 for some reason).
