Sure, you can read some of-the-moment political commentary into it but as far as interacting with the myth and symbolism it's laughably shallow. What there is to say about the statue exemplifying the pervasive sense of ugliness and cliche undermining art as a whole carries far more weight than the rote political conversation the artist obviously expects.
