*utterly fails to understand Cioran*
Meta thread?
>>24721819She would be a qt if not for that jaw but regardless, Cioran is a hack and nothing he wrote has inspired anything productive. Unironically he could never have been born and nothing would have changed.
>>24721902>Cioran should have inspired productive activity! Because...You don't understand. One of his earliest and most beautiful images was the idea that everyone just stops what they're doing, stops all productive activity and just quietly file outside their buildings to await impending doom from the sky.
>>24721952I guess if thats the case then why have culture in the first place? We ought to be monkeys eating our own feces instead.
>>24721819Who?
>>24721819She is the eternal mediocrity who only shits up every mid-late-20th-century translation of European literature—"with an introduction by…"—while she can only kvetch about Simone Weil being an antisemite or Leni Riefenstahl's Africa pictures being pure fascism, etc.etc.
Against Interpretation is great, all I have read by her.
>>24721902>Unironically he could never have been born and nothing would have changed. He had quite a big influence on Ligotti and Houellebecq. And a moderate one on Ionesco, Baudrillard and a few others. And they aren't really irrelevant. Cioran wasn't really interested in his public image. He refused most prices and public appearances. Just because he hasn't a big presence, doesn't mean he is irrelevant.
>>24721822>>24721994>>24722652check out my based cioran thread>>>24722599
>>24722482>Leni Riefenstahl's Africa pictures being pure fascismI mean, they are.
>>24722654Nah.
>>24722739>fascism is when traditional societies not yet destroyed by (((western civilization)))
>>24722782the nuba people aren't fascist, photographing them in a way that intentionally glorifies the aesthetics of the body is fascist. the nuba people almost certainly don't see themselves that way. I'm not against appreciating the aesthetics of the body, but it is something fascists do for propaganda purposes.
I bought the La Pléiade edition of Cioran because it was cheapI hope I didn't fuck up because I've never read him before
>>24721957Now you're on the right track. Cioran also advocated that it is better to be of a lower order of consciousness than a higher, as the higher orders have worse psychological problems. Better to be a rock than a plant, better to be a plant than an ape, better to be an ape than a man. He even anticipated your retort, with a much lower form that is nourished by shit:"How I'd love to be plant, even if I had to keep vigil over a piece of shit!"
>>24722652>He had quite a big influence on Ligotti and Houellebecq. His point still stands.
>>24721819really ugly. would not read
>>24722788>photographing them in a way that intentionally glorifies the aesthetics of the body is fascistIs this why every leftist I see is going out of their way to look as shitty as possible. (Not saying this in a chud way.)
>>24724316I think you're confusing postmodernists with "leftists" which is a broad umbrella term for anyone left of U.S. republican politics; not a very useful moniker. Postmodernist reject the idea of standard truth, which comes with a rejection of aesthetic standards. Traditional leftism is mainly about sublating/abolishing social/economic hierarchies as much as possible
>>24724463And then marching as Riefenstahl's subject? Trotsky literally created the fascist larp.
>>24724463>>24724488
>>24724316American leftists are mentally ill and have been subverted completely.
