Is Sade worth reading today or is it just softcore porn for the times without any substance?
>>
As worth reading as ever but probably not of much use to someone who thinks there is softcore porn that has substance.
>>
Sade has substance but most of the richness comes from secondary literature constantly reinventing and reanalyzing him. Half the French intellectuals of the 20th century had something to say about him.
>>
I've only read Justine, and it wasn't half bad
>>
forgot to turn my /lit/ competition tripcode off

He is worth reading. Most people make the mistake of starting with 120 Days of Sodom. But that is a terribly long and completely unpolished, unfinished work he wrote for his own personal gratification while in prison. Better off starting with Philosophy in the Boudoir imo, or the first, shortest version of Justine (published by Oxford as 'The Misfortunes of Virtue'). Has his short stories too, like Dialogue Between a Dying Man and a Priest

I would hardly call it softcore.

Just the reddit atheism of his time, not even particulary interesting since he just appeals to the theory of a natural force of creation.

I guess he actually believes that all moral truths cames from God. In a worldview without a God, the ethics became meaningless.

>softcore
if I remember right, that book has a guy fucking a dude in the ass while that dude simultaneously fucks a woman within the first 20 pages, and the woman talks about shitting in her boyfriend's mouth not long after

anyway Philosophy in the Bedroom isn't that good, Justine is far better for "this story is a moral lesson nudge nudge wink wink" Sade, and 120 Days is what you want for "here is the most outrageous depravity ever" Sade
yes they are worth reading IMO

Wtf is wrong with French people
>>

It's not that softcore but I wouldn't call it worth reading, though it is interesting to consider as the natural end point of liberalism and materialism

Pretty much. His worldview seems akin to a social darwinsm ante-litteram. Not all that compelling but brutally consistent
It is kinda fun seeing that his arguments to justify abortion are almost verbatim those being used today, only for him to use the exact same arguments next chapter to justify legalising murder

It also ends with an aids-ridden mandingo raping an older woman to the delight of her daughter who then proceeds to sew her pussy shut so she can't get rid of the infected semen

Do liberals realy?
>>
>>24722091
Do we really need two or three active Sade threads every day, you retarded faggot? Just fucking read that garbage and stop making these threads.
>>
>>24722091

A bunch of his stories feature cannibalism and dismemberment. That is not softcore porn.

There is better literature out there. You'll get more enjoyment reading Conan the Barbarian short stories or the Witcher novels and short stories.
