I have found around 1300 books i want to read. At first i thought there were more interesting books than it was possible to read in one's life but im certain my list is close to complete. This is doable in 25 years if i keep an average of 50 books per year. I think the list can expand to 1500 or so
Btw some of these books are "the complete works of" so i should say 1300 files in actuality
Even if you were to not follow through with it at all, the elaboration of the list in itself is already a massively useful intellectual exercise and achievement.
>>24722469Do you think you will still be interested in most of the books in 10 years? When reading new books I often find new topics I find very interesting and want to read more of. Other topics become less interesting as a result. Sure, there are some that are often referenced and thus might be worth a read.
To what degree does emphasizing quantity mean that you will neglect understanding these books, if the subject of the prose are a bit hard to understand or if you'd benefit from re-reading them or taking notes, you wouldn't be able to do that Maybe you could shorten the list by removing fiction books.
Subject or* the prose
>>24722494You are right, even if i don't read some i know exactly where the content is if i or someone needs to look for, and this is extremely valuable. On top of that i make hyperlinked notes on obsidian so i have what one could say an intellectual map well organized>>24722519Yes the reason why is because i know myself well enough as a 34yo. by this i mean i know what my inclinations are and what authors share the same. I'd say 90% of the books are by authors who are already dead>>24722692>Maybe you could shorten the list by removing fiction books.Only 5-10% is fiction
>>24722469>making a 25 year reading plan instead of letting momentary fancy pick your books Sounds miserable. You're treating literature like a tourist destinations plan when it should be an adventure. Plus, tou're not going to be the same nigga in 25 years time, you will be seeking different things, you gonna believe in different things and have different goals.

>>24722731>Sounds miserable. How miserable can it be when it has all of my interests and from all fields of knowledge? Philosophy, theology, religion, art, history, arithmetic, "conspiracy theories", anthropology, sociology and a diverse range of classical literature (poems and plays) and genre fiction (fantasy, sci fi, gothic, southern gothic)I can pick any field i want
>>24722736Wrong
>>24722744Thats even worse, your plan is to become a boring jack of all trades who acts as the annoying akshually reddit guy but has no real insights. People who like birds do not read 50 alloted books on ornithology and move on.
>>24722791Nah im a neet of inquisitive nature so i have plenty of interests and time. With 1300 books you can have a solid literacy in your interestsI never confront people and im extremely (maybe pathologically even) quiet. I would never be the actually debater and facts thrower
sorry anon but this is autistic nonsense.
>>24722791Most people are not even jacks of a single trade. You will know more than the average person does about everything by reading one book on every topic. Being a polymath is better than specialising in one interest.
>>24722731>>24722791>literature should be like an adventure maaaaaan>SIR, PLEASE SELECT READING MATERIAL FROM YOUR CHOSEN FIELD OF SPECIALTY ONLY!!!
OP please don't listen to any of these dilettante fags. Anyone seriously interested in literature should do what you have done.
>>24722692>Maybe you could shorten the list by removing fiction bookslmao you shameless ghoul
>>24722744>nonfiction >20 year old There are a handful that might stand the test of time but honestly most subjects move faster than that. Reading about exoplanets in 20 year old books you’d know nothing.
Making a reading list is fun but you WILL come across many books mentioned by other writers and those will not be on the list. Every book you read usually leads to two more books you will want to read after.
>>24722718>only 5-10% is fictionLMAO your list is fucking pseud garbage then.
>>24722469Listen to audiobooks of all of them at 2x speed and do nothing else with your free time to speed up consumption rate
>>24722718>>24724199Even "5-10%" is 65 to 130 fiction books. What could those possibly be?Also post a list.>>24722692Cutting fiction isn't the best method. If anon wanted to trim down he could focus on the following.Autobiographies and biographies are trash. Unless they did specifically did or built something you admire, they aren't worth your time. Best case scenario their life experiences are so radically different that you won't be able to glean anything from them.Pop science/pop psych/pop history books are trash. These are terribly written, misinterpret scientific studies, and push their viewpoint.Hard science books tend to get outdated if it's an expanding idea like astronomy (not so much for things like arithmetic). The only exception is if it's held up as some masterpiece in its field, even if it hasn't changed for 30+ years.Religion/theology should be pared down to the major holy books and then only going for the stuff that interests you. An in-depth look at the Book of Romans probably would bore most people except for hardcore theologians and Christians.>>24722805You plan to be a NEET for 25 years?
>>24722469>spend months of your life crafting and perfecting a reading list >start a life-long list of books >get to Jung>mindblow>discard the rest of the list and read Jung and Freud exclusively
>>24724759>>discard the rest of the list and read Jung and Freud exclusivelyNot that anon but one of my favorite topics of all time (as well as formal science) is psychology and human nature. I love reading about how men and women work, a lot of it about romantic and sexual endeavors or decision making. I am all obsessed about knowing myself and how other people work.
>>24722469>I have found around 1300 books i want to read.Good for you. I only got like 50 books left before Im ready to say "Yeah I'm done, I now know everything worth knowing".
