Hi, I've been issuing a web novel that's been having large amounts of readers on chapters 1-3, but after that has been only getting about 1/10 of the readings after it. Is there something wrong with ch. 3 that turns people off??

It's written in a free-verse style, which might have turned some people off from ch.1, but what I see is people dropping it halfway through. What could it be? I'm thinking of just doing a complete review of the newest ones, because it has less editing done on it. But I doubt a lack of polish would really deter readers.

Much thanks.

You are finding out why a lot of mangasloppers end up pushing fanservice and nonsensical plot twists in a desperate gamble to keep punters. I can’t be arsed to give you views but you’re probably slowburning something that needs to be a page turner or you spent your load on a cool concept that didn’t go anywhere or got stale fast. These are the pitfalls you try to tightrope walk.

Getting any readership whatsoever is a rarity so congrats.

Thank you. Everything's already written out, and the plot is fixed; it's just small edits and readability I've been working on. So far, it seems to be working, even if it's outside the meta of the website.

Recently, I've been leaning into the assassination scene in my novel that I'd written six months ago. Even though the scene isn't published yet (it's on the next chapter) I've been hinting at it on my description and title because of recent events, so I'll see how that goes.

They probably dropped because of low output. 6 chapters in a month is abysmal for Royal Road.

It's good. It's just that royal road readers expect slop and this evidently isn't it.

Thank you. I'm starting to wonder whether it'd be better moving elsewhere before my story is actually posted in its full. Like, KU? Send it to some agents? I'm really not sure, but at least posting chapter by chapter each day allows me to edit more.

>>24725047
that's why they call it a pecker
>>
>>24725425
Once you're done try and see if a publisher would be interested, or see if you can follow up on KU.
>>
>>24726743
I was definitely thinking KU, but will have to make sure that no copies of my work are out there because of the exclusivity clause (I'll have to DCMA if so).

Trad pub would be interesting, because most would not take a story that's been published already––I've tried to hope myself an outlier, and even hope that the traction I get on RR (or even KU later on) might make the book look sellable to them.

It's up to you, dude. It's probably best to complete the story and then put it on KU.

There's nothing there that doesn't turn people off. Hideous, eye-raping cover, nonsensical synopsis, content written and formatted as some kind of unintelligible goddamn poem. Who the fuck do you think wants this on a website dedicated to power fantasies? That anyone clicked on it is a miracle. Why are you so fucking weird? Did your dad rape you too little or too much?
>>
>>24722943
There are a lot, and I mean a lot of elements mishmashed together
>dude on a wheelchair
>monster girl
>political themes
>campus shooting
>free verse
From first impression it feels quirky and overwhelming, which is ok if that's what you are going for but it caters to a very niche target from the start.
Personally I'm not enthralled by anything other than realism unless it's epic or a fable, dream like setting, where politics has no place.
This is merely my point of view and you should write whatever you want.
On the drop on readership:
>open minded readers try it out despite the quirky setting, drop it because the enjoyment couldn't outweigh it
>or something happened in ch2 that made them drop it
And of course the first chapters are going to be the most read but I don't have to tell you

when has a miracle happened hundreds of times?? your world is changing, like it or not

>>24729617
fair, thanks for the glimpse of the blurb/title
i think what makes it seem mishmash is that people aren't used to the mix. well, most genres and modes are mishmash, but people don't notice it because it's been done thousands of times. of course there are some things that just don't go well together, but i think politics is a fair and fine thing to put in fantasy. man is a political animal; and whatever disgust there is in me putting something even as universal as an assassination is offset by the sort of "escape from escapism" that it offers.

Slopper-kun... Are you a tranny/you suffer from AGP?
It all seems to me you're doing things like this because you just want attention
My advice is to learn to separate your attention whore behavior from your writing

Anon that’s how all online media like that is. It happens with fanfics, it happens with web comics, and it happens with light novels. It varies a bit from story to story but that general pattern remains for the vast majority. Only very popular or high quality stories are able to break the pattern.
>>
>>24731491
>I don't type in all lowercase, should have been enough of a clue.
True, you do use "<3" though
Writing, specially webnoves is a horrible form of getting extra money. Either became a full-fledge slopper and sell out or disregard the (incredibly) low chances of making money and continue to write the story as you want.
