Great journalist books about the mormon church going deep into them? Something feels reaaaaaally off with them. (Pic unrelated)

I asked this in the Ender's Game thread a few days ago but got no reply so I'll ask it again:Why do people hate Mormons? Being in bongland I have encountered a handful of them on the street and they seem like nice people, although I'm aware they believe in some easily debunkable stuff. I'm also aware that the founder was pretty liberal with his sexual views, having multiple underage wives and all. But what exactly makes people so despondent to them and their culture (which is less known in Europe)? Or is it just South Park makes fun of them so therefore we all will, like with gingers and Scientology?
>>24723887The people are alright, pretty decent folk. The Church itself? It's a cesspool. They're quietly buying up land all over the country, and elsewhere. There's a bunch of financial fuckery going on.They tithe their believers aggressively, you don't pay? excommunication They are very involved in Utah's governance, but that's a given since they're the majority there. They're also kind of over represented in the FBI and other government institutions, I think the FBI goes out of their way to recruit Mormons because they make good recruits.Their temples are secretive, cameras are banned, access is restricted; and there's the special underwear.Money is more important than Faith. They famously ban Coca-Cola, but when the Church bought stock, or lent them money (or something like that, don't remember the specifics), they allowed drinking Coke.Up until 1978 black people weren't allowed to hold positions in the church, until "God changed his mind"They also use a bunch of cultish behaviors to hold on to their believers. The classics like pressuring family members to cut contact with those who leave the church.
>>24723370Everyone knows Mormonism is bullshit, the CES letter is only really relevant to Mormons. What’s more interesting to non-Mormons is the tyrannical structure of its organisation and its links to all kinds of random shit from Freemasonry, to the CIA to the MLM industry.
