What is it about video game threads on /lit/ that makes them exceptionally pathetic and manchild-like? I always get the feeling that people who post about video games here do it because they can't create good bait to attract people on /v/ or because they don't feel like they fit in with younger gamers but at the same aren't mature enough to pick up a proper hobby like gardening, collecting rocks, or woodworking. Everything about these threads just feels like it's empty posting. At least mangaposters and visual novel posters can tell you about characters, settings, themes/topics, and even style (in terms of pacing, tone, and graphics), but video game players seem to have this antisocial tendency (similar to that of sportsfags or blockbuster movie fans) of never actually talking about what they like, but instead just emptily namedropping video games, as if everybody understood what they're talking about.

Console Wars is pretty good

Also good, as is the second volume that was released in the last ten years

I also read "The Walkthrough" which is about writing strategy guides but felt more like a print version of someone's blog

Picrel covers all from Pong up to Super NES, its sequel goes from Playstation to Switch. I plan to buy both volumes some day
