The scientific advancements of the 17th and 18th centuries put increasing emphasis on laws of nature and the clockwork predictability of physical phenomena. Hence most of the great philosophers of those times (e.g., Descartes, Hobbes, Spinoza, Locke, Leibniz, Hume, and Kant) came to adopt deterministic worldviews. Determinism actively invites you to pass judgement on God. Passing judgement on God is as good as killing him, his non-existence is his only alibi. Thusly, God would not live to see the end of the 19th century.

When will people stop treating religion as Christianity
What do you even mean by God? What do you even mean by passing judgement? What do you mean by the laws of nature? These are all contextually dependent on a religious framework that means different things to different communities. To say that "God" was "killed" by "science" skips over several dozen definitions and explanations that it means different things to different people and so the statements themselves are meaningless

Wow what an insightful post. Come back to the board once you have read Hamann, including his correspondences with Kant.

Yes and it created totalitarianism. People that propagate it should be snuffed out. It killed art and culture.

Frazer put this much better in The Golden Bough. There is a titanic shift in mindset between believing you can propitiate the gods so they might favor you, and learning that reality obeys laws that you can learn and use to obtain your goals. In short, it really was superstition vs science all along.

Science is an incredibly overrated branch of knowledge. Hopping on trends doesn't prove its validity insofar democracy is not any concession to truthfulness.

Newtom believed that God ran the clockwork of the universe.

I don't think its that cut and dry honestly

Talk to someone who believes in Satan and demons and you'll realize it is way more cut and dry than the fence sitters like to think.

Not a fence sitter, I abhor determinist metaphysics because it effectively kills the creative spirit. Ever wonder why everyone complains that everything has been done before? Its because you live in Spinoza's world and you mentally reify him by repeating his mantras. Stop summoning him and this will all go back to the way things were.

If God died in the 19th century, Einstein and postmodernists revived him in the 20th.

This is why I don’t understand why conservative thinkers are so hostile to postmodernists. They literally BTFOed all the Reddit hecking love science and progress shit from the 18th and 19th century.
