In the pessimistic milieu there appear contemptible individuals who, in the common sense of existence, are unfortunately regarded as nihilists or, worse, pessimists. Subjects whom I personally regard as of low existence, for they are, in no respect, true pessimists. The denier of the world, the one who knows, or rather, grasps, the essence of the world, feels compelled to negate it, for the world objectifies itself in a hostile manner, especially toward those who are, in their measure, different from the amorphous mass of the common man. But let us return to the man of low existence. This subject raises complaints against the world not because he has understood the true essence of the world, the Will-to-Life, but rather because the world did not please him, did not serve his whims, and now he drags himself across this cursed earth, supposedly railing against everything and everyone. When in fact what emerges from his babblings and interjections is merely a failure of social conformity. This subject complains not because the world is essentially cruel, but because he did not get what he wanted. He is a failure in the broad sense. He is a normal man who failed at attaining normality, a failed-normal. His entire identity revolves around these failures, and if his experience in the world had been otherwise, this subject would have been as normal as possible.
