Voltaire drank 50 cups of coffee a day, and wrote prolifically. Balzac drank 50 cups of coffee a day and wrote prolifically.

What is your excuse?
>the publishing industry is rigged
everything has always been rigged. GET OVER IT
>lit departments are all left leaning
what are YOU going to do about it?
>I have to go to my job
So did Bukowski. So did Celine. So did Faulkner. GET OVER IT
>I don't have a job
Neither did Cormac. Neither did DeLillo. GET OVER IT

Until you start drinking 50 CUPS OF COFFEE A DAY, you are not allowed to make excuses, not here, not in real life, not even to yourself in your own mind

if you're not drinking 50 CUPS OF COFFEE A DAY, you are clearly not willing to DO WHAT IT TAKES

50 CUPS
>>
How about cocaine and amphetamines?
>>
>>24726417
If you can find good, clean stuff and stay out of trouble, then yes. Those would be a fine addition to 50 CUPS OF COFFEE, per day
>>
It takes about 15 minutes to boil, steep, and cool 3 cups of coffee with a french press. For 50 cups you'd be spending over 4 hours a day just brewing coffee lol
>>
>>24726426
I feel like stimulants are probably less harmful than the amount of caffeine you would need to consume for the same effect.
>>
>>24726413

Maybe you confused it with 5 cups? This looks realistic to me
>>
>>24726442
it's true, coffee brewing can be time consuming. I'd suggest a high quality drip-machine, most of those make 12 cups in one go. You could also get an espresso machine to put right next to your writing desk. And, its never a bad idea to have some cold brew on hand
>>24726444
coffee is healthy. packed with antioxidants, flavanoids, et cetera. 50 cups a day is very healthy
>>24726447
I did not confuse it with 5 cups. Look it up. These Frenchmen fueled their prolific writing lives with 50 cups of coffee a day. Trust me. You don't want to look back five years from now, not having achieved your dreams, and wondering if you would have achieved them, if only you had drank 50 cups of coffee per day
>>
How would you have time to write if you're in the bathroom pissing out coffee
>>
>>24726413
Have cup sizes changed? I do not know the history of coffee.
>>
>>24726413
>50 cups of coffee
Too expensive. I just buy meth off DarkMatter
>>
quality over quantity
>>
>>24726413
I brew at least 3 to 4 pots a day
>>
>>24726478
let's say you take a 3 minute piss break once an hour. okay, so you've lost 5 percent of your time. but your focus level has doubled (conservatively) by drinking 50 cups of coffee per day, so that 55 minutes per hour becomes 110 minutes per hour. you're literally stretching the fabric of spacetime itself when you drink 50 cups of coffee a day
>>24726481
perhaps, but they were also brewing espresso and strong turkish coffee, so it likely balances out. Balzac straight up ate coffee grounds at times
>>24726483
if you brew your own coffee it shouldn't run you more than 5 dollars a day. go to premium grocery stores and find high quality, whole beans when they're on sale. regardless, its a small price to pay to bend the fabric of spacetime itself
>>24726484
false dichotomy. buy premium whole beans, grind them fresh yourself and brew a pot with filtered water. 12 cups of delicious premium coffee at the press of a button
>>24726485
THAT is what I'm TALKING about.
>>
>>24726413
I read Candide over the weekend and boy was it awful. Kill me if I ever start writing like that.
>>
>>24726413
Imagine the shits!
>>
>>24726517
you could live in the BEST of all possible worlds if you simply drank 50 cups of coffee per day. well... you didn't enjoy the book! too bad... you should write a better one, I think you CAN do it. Especially if you start drinking 50 cups of coffee per day

That's what I like to hear. Round up the philosofags, you are ready to herd cats. We'll get the truth out of at least one of them. The search continues.
>>
Balzac and Voltaire both had, in addition to 50 cups of coffee a day, an overpowering sense of purpose sparked by the conditions of their respective periods. I fear it is not possible in our own day.
>>
>>24726413
Sv3rige says it's toxic bean water. It does nothing but stress your adrenals which makes you feel awake.
>>
>>24726524
seriousy tho. they must have had very weak coffee back in france back in the day
>>
>>24726413
50 cups is too much for 1 day
>>
>>24726549
Yes! The search shall go on
>>24726560
what exactly are the conditions which would prevent you or anyone else from finding that overpowering sense of purpose? And might these conditions, if they do exist, be overcome by drinking 50 cups of coffee a day. Now is not the time
for malaise or despair or hopelessness, now is the time for focus, and action!
>>24726560
sv3ridge. Now there's a throwback. He is entitled to his opinion, but he is wrong. Coffee drinkers live longer and have less cognitive deterioration than non-coffee drinkers. 50 cups of coffee a day is one of the healthiest things you can do

Based. The doomer era is over. As a people we MUST pivot to maximum effort. If you haven’t quit your job to write full time then you’re not serious. Everyone is a doomer now so it’s time you know.
>>
>>24726413
I think you're right.
>>
>>24726566
meant to reply to (you) about sv3ridge... my apologies!
>>24726609
my friend. let's not get caught in the weeds on that particular score. coffee is good for you... it can't be denied...
>>24726614
>50 cups is too much for 1 day
for you
>>
Perhaps coffee, hydration, meditation, decent food and a bit of exercise is all you need in order to become epic. Big if true.
>>
>>24726566
>Sv3rige says
dropped
>>
>>24726628
Exactly. Do what it TAKES, NEVER doom... for any number of dilletantes, their dreams are 2 steps away: quit the job and start drinking 50 cups of coffee per day
>>24726630
thank you, my friend. I raised my current cup of coffee in your honor
>>
I drink a lot of coffee, but I don't enjoy writing and have nothing to write about anyway.
>>
>>24726619
>what exactly are the conditions which would prevent you or anyone else from finding that overpowering sense of purpose?
I meant that the illustrious Gauls had their subjects (comparatively) ready made for them. No amount of coffee is going to make anticlerical polemics as interesting as they formerly were. You need to have the germ of an idea; it can certainly be amplified by stimulants, but it's got to be there first.
>>
>>24726641
absolutely. hydration, meditation, good food and exercise are all great. this is your foundation. then, you blow the roof off the joint by drinking 50 cups of coffee per day. that's how you mainline the ether
>>
drinking lots of coffee ruined my life when I still had a job. I had anxiety so bad that I had irregular heartbeats and uneven breathing. Don't drink too much coffee Anon..
>>
>>24726655
but do you drink 50 cups of coffee a day? come on man!
>>24726661
I agree with you. In fact, anticlerical polemics have possibly never been LESS interesting than they are now. We've certainly passed that phase. So what phase are we in now? You probably have some ideas about that. I bet you could get those ideas dialed in and properly elucidated when you start drinking 50 cups of coffee per day
>>
>>24726671
that isn't good. sorry that happened my friend. perhaps 50 cups of coffee a day isn't for you.

>50 cups a day.

I call bullshit on that. even if one assumes a cup of coffee is 1 teaspoon + 100ml of water, that still adds up to 5 liters per day at the bare minimum. (and 12.5 liters if one cup is 250ml).

PS for ameritards:

5L = 1.32 gallons
12.5L = 3.3 gallons
>>
>>24726413
>out of tiny tea cups

>>24726671
>anxiety so bad that I had irregular heartbeats and uneven breathing

Caffeine abuse gives you the jitters because it's stripping B1, which your nerves need. It's like giving yourself ADHD and Diabeetus. Be supplementing or eating to compensate if you absolutely must be hammering the black oil. And use only dark roasts (less caffeine). Taking yerba mate first in the morning can help (contains caffeine antagonists).
>>
if 50 cups is standard how many cups is dangerous
>>
>>24726695
IIRC Balzac‘s number has a lot to do with an estimation derived from his chewing on the grounds
>>
>>24726704
>It's like giving yourself ADHD
at last I truly see
>>
>>24726469
Their coffee was considerably weaker than modern cups, you'd be looking at around 20 cups if you want to stay inline with the French java goats.
>>
>>24726704
I drink mate because my father passed it down to me and that shit is ridiculous. Stomach pain and the most intense jitters I've ever gotten from caffeine every time. If I eat with it I can minimize the effects a bit. It tastes great and looks cool and is a fun little ritual and very stimulating. But just demonic.
>>
>>24726413
Benjamin Franklin actually thanked Coffee, and Tea, for the Enlightenment for their stimulating effects, increase in focus and literary/intellectual benefit. And for knocking comsumption of the depressant, intoxicating, mibd-destroying and poisonous alcohol.
>>
>>24726704
how about tea?
>>
>>24726442
Then percolate your coffee. It comes out stronger anyway.
So what is a "cup of coffee"? Google says 6-8 ounces, and 1-2 tbsp of grounds per 6 oz. of water. My pot is ~48 oz., and I think I use 4-5 tbsp for the whole pot, then brew it for 15 minutes. I drink just over one of those per day. Plus I add some chocolate-covered coffee beans as needed. I don't think that comes out to 50 cups, but I drink more coffee than anyone I know. But how do I tell how much I'm having, measured by "one cup of coffee"?

My daily caffeine intake is pushing 500mg + Adderall and I've written 70+ pages to a non-fiction political philosophy book. It might not be done for easily another 100 pages, and I have zero literary agent contacts or connections.

cross that bridge when you get to it. it might feel stressul or hopeless to labor in obscurity, but that can also be a gift if you allow it to be... you are banging on your craft, sharpening your voice and your ideas in the unfettered space-time of isolation. GO ON. GO ALL THE WAY

No idea. Never read it. I did once pretend to read a copy of Being and Nothingness to impress a girl in high school, which was especially retarded because the book was in French (it had an English cover, I didn't notice when I bought it) and I don't speak French. That's not Dialectical Reason though.
