Some interpreters see Forms not as separate objects in another world, but as abstract patterns or universals. On this view, the relation is less mysterious: physical things instantiate these universals.

A beautiful flower is beautiful because it participates in or imitates the Form of Beauty.

A just action is just because it reflects the Form of Justice.

A triangle drawn in sand is imperfect, but it is recognizable as a triangle because it resembles the perfect Form of Triangle.

Particulars participate in or imitate Forms.

Forms give the being, order, and intelligibility to the particular.

So in Plato: the opposite of a particular is a Form — the timeless, perfect blueprint that makes particulars what they are.
>But how do forms create the particulars
It's called Methesis (participation) Particulars “participate in” Forms. They are not created by the Form in a literal, physical sense; rather, they derive their essence or and being from it.

Example: a beautiful painting is beautiful because it partakes in the Form of Beauty — it imitates or reflects it.
>Okay but how are particulars created
In Timaeus, Plato describes the Demiurge, a divine craftsman who orders pre-existing chaotic matter. The Demiurge looks to the Forms as perfect blueprints, and then builds the material to reflect and imitate the forms. The form of the good makes these particulars intelligible.

Forms do not act like physical causes of particulars.

They are eternal, perfect patterns or principles.

Particulars are imperfect copies or instances of these patterns, according to Plato, created by the demiurge.

Later Neoplatonists like Plotinus end up scrapping the idea of a demiurge in favor of a "One" similar to the "Good" which everything emanates from, similar to a Monad god.

I repeat

Plato did not conceive of emanation as a metaphysical principle the way Plotinus and later Neoplatonists did.

They're the iceberg, and what avails itself topside belies a greater totality.
