>Vladimir Nabokov, who generally regarded Dostoevsky as a "rather mediocre" writer, called The Double "the best thing he ever wrote", saying that it is "a perfect work of art".Interesting.
>>24728393>InterestingThanks for your input. Is that all you have to say about the book?
I also regard him as a rather mediocre writer. What in The Double would change my mind?
>>24728406I haven't read it.
>>24728411Guess you're going to have to read it to find out.
>>24728423Why even bother making a thread about it, then?
>>24728393I sincerely believe that Nabokov intentionally praised Dostoevsky's (nearly) worst work as an elaborate joke. Also the main reason Nabokov liked it was not literary merit but because he derived sadistic enjoyment from seeing pussy male characters get whipped by life and descent into madness and death. My most schizo theory is that this was a form of psychological repression and revenge against his initial meekness around women (see: "Speak Memory") that he had to continuously overcome and ruthlessly disavow through writing "Podvig"/"Glory" where the sporty Russian émigré character who studies in England ends up throwing away his life trying impress some slut living in Berlin.
>>24728441Because I thought it was interesting. Everybody spams Nabokov's comments on Dostoevsky, yet this one is positive. Are you being deliberately obtuse? Anyway, I will go ahead and read the book now.
>>24728450Why was Nabokov such a weirdo cuck?
>>24728393So, has anyone actually read this?
