>destroys Marxism with petty bourgeois ramblings and artistic sentimentalismwhy were they so powerful?more specifically why were and are their books funded and printed everywhere, yet most people read Marx and Engels from old translations?
>>24729218They were actually pretty conservative and a lot of progressive leftists hated them
>>24729218>why...?Because they're fun to read, even Adorno's Aesthetic
ML leftists get mad since they recognized that Stalin and the USSR were antithetical to freedom and emancipation. So their reluctance and tension away from the authoritarian East and the instrumentalization of capitalism from the West actually produced stuff worth thinking about that is philosophically sophisticated.
>>24729218Walter Benjamin was much more of a Jewish mystic and theologian than a legitimate Marxist, dumbfuck.
>>24729284so like Cornelius Agrippa or something? I dunno if he was Jewish but he played around with Kabbalah, I know that.
>>24729284The thing with Benjamin was he was never officially part of the Frankfurt School (IfS): Adorno & Horkheimer kept him on the periphery and dangled carrots at him to write things for them, then wouldn't publish it because it was too "reactionary". In that sense the association isn't really fair: he was just as much on the periphery of Bataille's College of Sociology, and had spent time in more interesting intellectual circles before, bohemian ones, Jewish mysticism as you say with Scholem, etc.I think it also fitting that he died in the Old World: imagine living in Pacific Palisades with bourgeois mediocrities like Adorno and Mann!
>>24730071>bourgeois mediocrities like AdornoAnon's an optimist. Imagine that
>>24729284He's not completely wrong. Paul says the same in a couple of the epistles. And Hegel also said similar things but in a more secular fashion.
>>24729231Aside from a hatred of Jazz, what is conservative about Walter Benjamin, a self-avowed dialectical materialist?
>>24729279Freedom to do what?
>>24729218I just think it's funny how he killed himself right before the Nazis said that the boat was free to go.
>>24730181>He's not completely wrongAbout what? That there is some materiality and divinity in the world? That the world was created? That there is some hidden divine language behind these mundane texts?
>>24729284No one beats the hunchback Benjamin. No one.
>>24729218Stalin would have killed all these bourgeois jews. They are not marxist and never were.
>>24730181>Hegel also said similar things but in a more secular fashion.no he doesn't lolnot at all you moron
>>24729284>>24729279>>24729218>They were sent by Stalin with his blessings to destabilize Western countriesInfantile Leftists have their uses against even more infantile leftists, after all.
>>24730236Think
>>24729218>more specifically why were and are their books funded and printed everywhereLiterally CIA
>>24729218>why were they so powerful?>Publishing bad books for US intellectuals is power. They were so weak because they were bourgeois intellectuals.
>>24731868Your resentment and ad hominems aren't genuine thinking Rockhill.
If I have to read that essay about art and reproduction one more fucking time...
using bourgeois as a term of abuse is extremely gay.
