Is there really any difference between spending 2 hours reading a great book vs 2 hours reading a shit book vs 2 hours watching a movie vs 2 hours watching TV vs 2 hours scrolling? Any way you're just killing time, not really accomplishing anything.
>>
2 hours reading a great book
>expand your vocabulary
>explore permanent and universal human concerns
>challenge yourself
2 hours reading a shit book
>minor dopamine hits from cliffhangers that then immediately disappoint you
2 hours watching a movie
>depends on the movie but you probably aren't challenging yourself or learning anything
2 hours watching tv
>ads
>propaganda
>lies
2 hours scrolling
>develop ADD

Who takes these faggy pictures?

>>expand your vocabulary

>>explore permanent and universal human concerns

>>challenge yourself

Reading is simply high brow entertainment for rich people.
>>
>>24736180
High brow entertainment for rich people is molesting children.

Reading philosophy teaches you how to think, Improves Critical Thinking, Enhances Problem-Solving
>>
>>24736196
reading philosophy just teaches you how to play pointless semantic games

Nothing means anything

>so?
It keeps your mind active.
>>
>>24736277
so does sudoku

>is there really a difference between eating a succulent meal over literal shit?

In the grand scheme of things, sucking shit out a dogs ass may sustain you, but there's nuance to consider.
>>
>>24736099
it's a lot easier to find a good book than it is good tv. There's only so many times I can watch the trailer park boys.
>>
>>24736328
All that reading and you still can't find a different metaphor.
>>
>>24736339
Why mess with perfection?
>>
>>24736289
No, that's doing the same thing over and over again.
>>
>>24736099
It doesn't really matter what you spend your time doing as long as it aligns with your interests.
For example if you like dragons you could read a book about dragons or you could watch a movie about dragons or you could scroll a website about dragons. It doesn't really matter what it is as long as it involves dragons. You wouldn't limit yourself to only certain forms of dragon related media would you?
>>
the effects of reading (and actually engaging) with insightful, or thoughtful books are actually noticeable. find out for yourself, or rot
>>
>>24736412
you are experiencing placebo + narcissim.
>>
>>24736439
it's more practical than 'enlightenment' big hoss (if you're pushing back on anything like it), it's called being educated.
>education isn't real
...based?
>>
>>24736439
>>24736505
and if that doesn't register for you; say we're both trying to get with some babe in our college class-- is she fucking with the naruto expert, or the cultured adult?
>>
>>24736509
she'd probably send a picture of the "cultured adult" reading to her groupchat and call you a performative male
>>
>>24736412
Does it actually do that actually (actually)?
>>
he typed the word 2 times in the 4chan thread
>>
>>24736172
you asked if they were different. They are. You just don't care.
>>
>>24736517
i feel you. but the performative male is a constant in this hypothetical
>>
>>24736099
Yes but depends on the specifics and your level of experience. Reading naturally requires more from you in attention, thinking, imagination, and grasp of language.
>>
>>24736145
His faggy bf
>>
>>24736172
NTA but all of those things are incrementally building you into a better person than you were before. A more well-rounded, articulate man who can express his own ideas and the ideas of others which he finds compelling or meaningful.
>>
>>24736130
Good.
>>
If you spend any amount of time worrying about how other people think of you and select what you read or watch based on that, you are not worth talking to.
>>
>>24736099
I wonder if anybody has ever taken a photo of me reading on the tube

I bet someone has
>>
>>24736172
you don't seem too bright, just stick to netflix and scrolling

>Is there really any difference between spending 2 hours reading a great book vs 2 hours reading a shit book vs 2 hours watching a movie vs 2 hours watching TV vs 2 hours scrolling?
Yes. If ykyk
>>
If reading actually made you smarter or more articulate this board wouldn't be overrun with complete retards.
>>
>>24736099
You get what you put in. If you study film making and put in the time to understand the craft you will get a great deal out of the two hours you spent watching a movie, and that time will be more constructive than the two hours spent by someone who treats literature as an affect. If you are just killing time it really does not matter what you do but why would someone waste their time like that?
>>
>>24738090
What about /lit/ makes you think /lit/ reads?
>>
>>24736341
No, that's the definition of insanity.
>>
>>24736099
yes
>>
>>24736509
she'd pick Chad. People outside of limp-wristed pretentious literary circles don't care about being cultured, they care about a system of appearance attributes, the most important of which is the physique. A man with a good body, firm shoulders, who takes care of himself. A man with a good jawline, plenty of hair on his head, eyes that're just the right shape, good, strong genetics. Cultured or needy, athletic or whatever? That's just window dressing.
So, the real answer to your little word game is simple, really. It's whoever's more jacked. And some 6'5" Naruto-inspired gymshark is gonna mog you and your pinterest-friendly sweater any day. Books are cool, I guess, as a hobby. Just don't expect to get any bitches on your dick. If you want that, just put on audiobooks at the gym or whatever.
