I like reading physical books but I'm pretty poor and half the time I want to read a book I can't find it for under 40 or 50 bucks. I can't afford to spend 300+ dollars a month on books.

Check out online used book stores like abebooks or thriftbooks. There may be others, but I've had luck with those two.

You can read and study a tree, a river, a painting, manuscripts, a city, a mountain, a computer, a book. Scorning other media is a skill issue. Yes, I do it too. I also have skill issues.

this, I buy most of my books 2nd hand. especially classics you can often find very cheap in good condition.

Don't use Abe unless they describe the actual book they're selling or, even better, have non-stock photos. I've bought "very good" books with mildew or underlines/highlights on every page. Their return policy also sucks, YOU need to pay return shipping, which is usually about the same price as a used paperback, so it's pointless. And there's no way to review stores either, the star system is just a percentage of people who returned their book. Thriftbooks is better since if something doesn't match the description, they'll pay return shipping.
