Will studying philosophy actually grant me wisdom? Or will it only grant me knowledge of other men’s opinions?

Will studying Plato’s writing on the soul give me wisdom on the nature of the soul or just knowledge of Plato’s opinions on the soul?

>only grant me knowledge of other men's opinions

Mostly this. I can learn about the theory of forms, agree with it in some respects, observe it in my own ingrained patterns of thought. But it has absolutely zero effect on my daily life. I doubt even the guy who completes the system of German Idealism will be some enlightened sage. Just a schmuck like us who figured a thing out and mostly sucks at everything else. It will give you ideas though, and maybe reacting to other dudes ideas will give you your own ideas.
>>
>>24746113
You will read their ideas, and then these ideas will clash in your mind for months. The resulting knowledge is neither of those you mentioned. It is your own idea taking in consideration their ideas.

>But it has absolutely zero effect on my daily life
If theory of forms is real, then everything is objective. Including the form of woman and man. This will cause half of america to call you a nazi fascist.

what about the form of nonbinary person
>>
>>24746145
I already wrote five works of it.
>>
>>24746113
Reading philosophy will help you better organize and understand your own ideas and beliefs.

For most people it either makes them autistic or justifies their being autistic. For a small number of people it gets them to actually think about things instead of just forming opinions about things.

>>24746308
and then what
>>
>>24746322
Philosophy is probably not for you.
>>
>>24746113
why don't you just start reading and find out
>>

They either have a penis, a vagina, or an axe wound.

>If theory of forms is real, then everything is objective.

That’s not at all what it means. I think you should reread Plato.
>>
>>24746113
It grants insight you might not have otherwise. The wisdom derived from this is up to your own abilities.
>>
there's only one way to wisdom and the way is violence
>>
>>24747048
You reread it. Do a quick google search, even.
In the platonic theory of forms, the forms exist outside human beings. They do not change depending on what we think of them. In fact, they are immutable and eternal.
The forms are objective.

Knowledge vs. wisdom

Not everything is the forms, fucktard

The reality you exist in is inherently subjective, even if the forms exist
>>
>>24747955
>Not everything is the forms, fucktard
Correct, the forms are separate entities or objects outside of our understanding, as I've said before.
>The reality you exist in is inherently subjective, even if the forms exist
False, the reality is a reflection of the forms. You can argue all you want if reality is subjective or not, but we are talking from the point of view of the platonic theory of forms. In said theory, reality is not subjective.
>>
>>24748146
To correct myself: I meant "our" reality (the sensible world), not "the" reality.
>>24747955
If you can find any single source that points out that Plato thought about a subjective reality, then please answer. Otherwise, let's save our time.

Which is more beautiful, a blonde or a brunette?
>>
>>24748437
For me? A blonde.
If you think this is a way to prove that the theory of forms is subjective, it is not, since I don't believe in the theory of forms.
>>
>>24748568
Again, no one is saying the forms are subjective. You said “everything is objective”

Do opinions of beauty not fall into “everything”?
>>
>>24748586
Aghh, I get your point now. You could've been more direct. All of this was simply a mistake of one single word which I never payed much attention to (Since I always argued about reality afterwards and not "everything").
>If theory of forms is real, then reality is objective. Including the form of woman and man. This will cause half of america to call you a nazi fascist.
There you go
>>
>>24748687
Nazi, you will be made to give account and your excuses will not save you from the fire
>>
>>24750042
>saying that a man is a man and a woman is a woman is being a nazi
>>
>>24750136
>Thinking this is what is being debated when you deny people essential healthcare
