>get isekai'd to a world of magic>become a warrior to hit things with a sword Wtf is wrong with MCs? You could've been a wizard!
Is there a decent translation of Reverend Insanity anywhere? The stuff I found was decent for the first 100~ chapters but then it rapidly devolved into the sloppiest machineslop ever.
>>24746702>MC is super into RPGs and always plays a wizard>Gets isekaied>Is super excited to live out his wizard fantasies>Oh bad luck MC, you have no natural magical aptitude>The whole world is pushing him to be a generic warrior class but he desperately fights against that and keeps trying to use magic, failing, and causing hijinks as a resultAny WNs with this theme?
>>24746769I vaguely remember some similar stories, but of course the MC always gets both op magic powers AND sword mastery
>>24746769Do you even "The Wandering Inn"?
>>24746792I feel like you have to be stupid to pick sword mastery. In the real world ranged weapons are better than melee. Even during medieval times archers were OP (think of the mongols). Magic should be more like firearms and once firearms became accurate and cheap enough they made melee weapons obsolete. If you've ever played video games, especially MMOs, RTSes, ARPGs and MOBAs you should know how much better being ranged is than melee. So why do these MCs want to swing around a fucking sword?

>Magic bends the laws of reality (or similar)Am I the only one peeved by this? If you come from a world without magic, this would make sense. But if your world always had magic, that would seem like a completely unnatural train of thought, given that magic has always been your reality, and it would be stupid to not have then included magic within your laws describing reality. And yet, natives always seem to describe magic as if it were a foreign entity.

Hi I want to write a book about a boy who meets a wizard and turns into a vampire. I have this so far, can someone tell me its strength and faults thank you>>He woke up and realised it was all a dream. the dream was terrible though because he was a vampire and he drank the blood of his family by sinking his sharp canines into their jugular veins leaving teeth marks. he was walking towards an old shabby hut when suddenly a wizard appeared in front of him, who's name was wizard mick, and said "i will turn you into a vampire and you will dominate the world" and this was such a good deal that thomas could not say no so he turned into a vampire. at night he went to an old age home and feasted on the neck of his first victim, a wrinkly gentleman named charles woodfinch, who used to be a lawyer, and he tasted justice because one time he helped a pedo off the hook who was also an illegal alien.
>>24747195Mick should be a [Wizard] that turns him into a [Vampire], and he should get [Bloodsucking LVL 2] from it.
>>24747202mick is a wizard as said in my work
>>24746738No there is no professional TL. only deranged NEET amateurs have the time and will to translate multi-thousand chapter web serials
>>24746769Even worse than no natural aptitude. he panic picks an antimagic talent to survive his first day and then spends the rest of the story coping with not being able to be a wizard since it permanently shut him off from magic.Which is extra fucked in this world because your ability to do magic is related to your understanding and insights into how it works underneath so as someone from earth with basic highschool level physics education he couldve been the most powerful mage in the world shooting unblockable nuclear radiation death beams.

Fuck car trouble.Check your tires everybody. I had basically invisible wear on the inside of my tire and it was a few days away from bursting, down to the wires. Fucking scary and I can't get it out of my head even now that it's fixed and everything else has been inspected.
>>24747304Working author here. I literally collapsed on my daily train from working during the day and writing at night. So, I perfectly understand what you’re feeling right now.My advice? Divide the story into chunks and take a well-deserved pause between each release. Also, CUT, CUT, CUT anything that sinks your time because you’ll need to make some sacrifices if you want to keep writing.
>>24747152>>24747159I think of magic the same way I think of electromagnetism, gravity, the strong force, and the weak force. Magic is just an additional force involved that can make stuff happen. Magical spells are like electronics, but instead of electromagnetism they're based on the magic force. Some ancient spells are so powerful and complex that we only know how to cast them but not how they work etc.

It was a struggle to get through the re-read but it flows SO MUCH better than how I had it on Saturday, so the work of the last few days has definitely paid off, and I know what I'm going to write tomorrow. It's all lined up.Just gotta do some self-care today.
>>24747482>It was a struggle to get through the re-readALWAYS RE-READ 50 times, then another 100 before publishing a chapter.
>>24747487Normally I write, then the next day I re-read what I wrote the day before, then I re-read when I post to patreon, and then I re-read again when I post to RR a few weeks later. Then I format the manuscript for epub and amazon, and I re-read again. For the first volume I re-read twice which was a huge PITA and I still missed a few typos (corrected now).My line editing is mostly on point by the time it hits RR/manuscript, but where I've been lacking is overall structural editing. Books 2 and 3 are going to get that a lot harder before they're published, and in a year or two when I release an omnibus I'll go back and do some structural editing to Book 1.Today's re-read was a struggle because my mental game today is shit and I've been wrangling all my loose plot threads and trying to weave them into the climax and my first attempt was shit. Now it's much better. But it's a lot of mental RAM used up if that makes any sense.
>>24747500Also, don't be afraid of surgical changes. If something doesn't flow, try restructuring a sentence or using a metaphor to make it easier to digest.
>>24747500>then I re-read when I post to patreon, and then I re-read again when I post to RR a few weeks laterIs a few weeks between patreon and RR posts normal? Seems long to me but I'm new to WN so I don't have a good foothold on what's considered normal yet.

>>24747688Actually that sounds based as fuck. Like id the mc was uncle ted. I kinda want to write it now.>>24747607I believe so. I'm doing a typical read ten chapters ahead on patreon for $10. Some people mix it up a bit. Funny enough my $15 tier is just as popular and nobody signs up for $5.

These threads have measurably slackened off since I was here last. Are Web Novels a dying art? Or are we all such towering adepts that there's no need for mutual advice and encouragement?
What's the opposite of regression where the protagonist wakes up in the future? I know it long predates wns with stuff like Rip Van Winkle but what's it actually called?
>>24748453isekai
>>24748452>a dying artnot sure they are dying but they certainly are no "art", that's for sure
>>24748452They're not dying at all. It's alot more crowded than it was back in than even 2020. It felt more underground then—it was like the final stages of the pioneer era before it really hit mainstream. At that time there was barely any places like Imm. Ink that was like a safe space for web novelists. I was in this big one around that time and most of the writers in it(forgot the name of it now) was mostly trad/self authors/writers, and crazy insane amount of wine aunts given covid lockdown and all. They're as popular as ever imo. I'd say this is even the peak for web novels.

>finally wrote the last setup chapter>it's short but whatever>finally ready to deliver the climax that was promised way back at the beginning>too worn out to start writing it today>have to wait until tomorrowI'm excited, but fuck, book 3 is now already twice the length of book 1, and it'll wind up twice the length of book 2 before I pare it down. Book 3 is going to be a massive chonk by comparison if anyone actually buys the physical trilogy.I've noticed something interesting on RR though. After my ad runs finished I didn't buy any more, and my growth slowed and then came to basically a complete halt at the part of the story where pacing issues were wearing out readers. Follower count stagnated, and even fell a bit. So I figured that even though the story improved later, it would remain stagnant. But now that I'm at the end of book 2, where the pace is much improved and the story is racing towards the local climax, follower and view growth has picked up again. I have no idea what's causing this. Maybe someone shouted me out or is talking about me in the forums or something. I don't have author premium to see where readers are getting linked from. But hey, it's nice to know that a weak beginning and middle isn't enough to kill a story entirely as long as [It's Serialized].

It succinctly gives the premise of the fiction and sets expectations correctly. It's a slice of life story, OPMC, no progression, magic, and so on.

Alright I'm not normally into webslop, but I read Worm and Mother of Learning out of curiosity. Worm was great, especially the final arc, even though it had some very obvious flaws (the timeskip, the wards section, the hunt for the cloned slaughterhouse 9). I'm glad I powered through to the payoff.Mother of Learning was sloppier, the ending was pretty lame, but it was enjoyable enough throughout and at least competently written on a sentence level (the snarky dialogue and some of the oddly stiff recounting of critical events did bother me though).I tried a few recs from the link in the sticky, and they were just awful (Rend, Katalepsis).
