How do we learn about things outside our current knowledge?

>>24747114By experimenting where our current knowledge breaks. That's how we learn in general: by testing random shit and seeing what happens. It's akin to evolution: the whole beast is never thrown out and replaced, but it does adapt and evolve with novel tests. And like evolution progress is achieved by the enlightenment of failure. If you want to inspire someone to learn about things outside their current knowledge, which is very expensive at least in terms of time, you need to inspire them to care about the subject matter. This is obvious, but I am highlighting it to show how central motivation is to the entire enterprise of learning. The accumulation and repetition of inert facts for points is not learning.Showing the beauty in the world is the most important task of our time. The fundamental illness plaguing the world is a lack of giving a shit.
>>24747114How do you fill out a crossword puzzle? I'm not joking, how do you do it? You hope that you just know all the answers, but realistically that won't be the case, so you fill in what you know, then move on to what you don't.You then start filling in the answers that are least somewhat explained by the ones you've already completed. Are you not sure? Then guess! You'll move forward under a tenuous assumption, that is subject to change as new information presents itself, and if that answer proves to be right alongside other answers, then it slowly cements itself in your mind as valid. And if further down the line, you realize you were wrong, you go back to the starting point, and rarely with no gains. Lamarck was wrong about the process of evolution, but that doesn't mean none of his observations regarding biology, were valid.Essentially, you learn new things by comparing them to things you already know to be certain, and rejecting new ideas that conflict with ones you know to be true. This isn't foolproof, as people have historically failed to reject false ideas in favor of true ones, many times. But, when used correctly, and constantly re-evaluating the "truth" of what we assume to be correct, we can inch closer towards accuracy,

Everything you learn is something you don't know in the first place, so, by definition, everything you learn is already outside your current knowledge.Learning is the process of abstraction where the brain extracts informations from the unknown to store them.
