paperback for reading
hardcover for sitting in the shelf

the first post is, as always, the best post
>>
Paperback is pretty much worthless after a couple of reads, it comes apart. So if it’s a book you plan on reading multiple times or using for reference, definitely hardcover

Maybe if you're some kind of savage.
>>
Hardcovers for heavy tomes to read them laid open properly assuming the binding is done well, paperbacks for the rest.

Whatever's cheapest.
...that said, my local bookstore sells these editions that are vinyl-bound "paperback", which are actually quite nice, at least structurally. I have Moby Dick and an ~800 page collection of the Romantic poets (ie the usual suspects) in these editions, and last weekend picked up a collection of Emily Dickinson's poetry.
The actual covers themselves are a little gaudy, but I personally don't mind the Emily one

The purchasing officer in my university library makes the decision for me, I just send requirements to the Interlibrary loans officer.

I treat texts like what they are. Sluts. Slut dragons.

Hardcover for non-fiction
Paperback for fiction

It's not rocket science.

Are there any actual reasons to still use paperslop other than pretentiousness?

Studies show that you retain the text better from hard copies, and I have found that to be the case for me.
If you're a poorfag and just want to read pirated ebooks, that's fine though. Like we all know that's the real reason you prefer ebooks.

Hard covers all the way if you can afford it, especially penguin clothbounds

I prefer Hardcover when I can find it and when it's not ridiculously expensive. Paperback is fine but it's unreal how fast they get beat up.

Judging by the URL it's talking about cloud storage so I don't see how that's relevant.

Water won't destroy my paperback

It's easier to focus with a real book. What I like to do is go outside with my book, with no phone, no laptop, no music player, no distraction. The only thing I can do is read that one book. With an e-reader, I have a thousand books, so I'm constantly switching between books instead of reading the one I want to read.
>>
>>24749610
That seems like a you problem, not the ebook problem. I have no issues reading from my smartphone at home.
>>
>>24749396
Don't see how that would affect my computer with linux nor my home server though?
>>
>>24749724
>That seems like a you problem
I don't deny that. Step one is to admit I have a problem. It's like some people are alcoholics and others aren't, you know? And if you're an alcoholic, best to stay away from bars.
>>
Nigga if you find yourself in a scenario where the internet suddenly blacked out to the point where you simply cannot recover anything you have bigger issues than literature preservation, there's probably a band of raiders driving to your house to rape you. Papertards always invent these apocalypse now scenarios that justifies their consooming of relic media.

I have plenty of money to spend. What else am I going to do with it?

The paperback goes in my pocket. However, the hardcover stays open without support. Truly a confounding dilemma. I suppose the answer depends on 1. how I am intending to read the book and 2. the pricing.
