>Before you tell me to get fucked and write real shit, I have and it's hard to get your name out there

This shit is popular, and it's enjoyable fuck you. Right now the publishing industry is women rubbing thesmelves out to Big werewolf cock, if we're going to get guys into reading we have to write at that level

I believe LitRPG is to men what Romantasy is to women, low level, low brow, FUN reads that get them into the the world of storytelling

Journeymen writer here, published once, and I recently escaped the slush pile at Baen with my epic fantasy (not lit rpg)

I'm looking at what publishers, catering to men, are looking for and theres a big call for LitRPG

So I started writing one, about 40k words in (they want 100k) this is SO easy to write and yes, its not high art, but it's fun

So my plan is to use LitRPG to get my foot in the door, get some male readers, who then might want to see my non lit rpg stuff

should I try to serve to publishers, or just royal road? What's going to get me more views?

>If we are going to get guys into reading
Writing out of some social mission is really cringe at this point. It was refuted like 150 years ago.
>LitRPG is to men what Romantasy is to women
Which is why a general disdain of both is much better than the regular woman hate that prevails here.
>So my plan is to use LitRPG to get my foot in the door
Actually a good idea. Women authors sometimes break into literary fiction through YA and other genre literature so I don't see why men couldn't through LitRPG
>Should I try to serve to publishers or just royal road?
Try both, of course. Getting a good following on royal road should improve your chances of getting a publisher to pay attention to you.
Your LitRPG audience probably won't be interested in your other stuff but you can convince a publisher to give your other fiction a shot if you have already proven you can make them money.

Why not just write a progression fantasy without the RPG nonsense? Both are equally popular in webnovels, but at least that way you can larp as being a semi-serious author, whereas I don't think anyone will every take a "LitRPG writer" seriously
>>
>>24749072
Genuinely what the fuck are these abominations? Progression fantasy? Isn’t all fantasy a progression fantasy? Some dude gets stronger, learns magic, gets magic items, slaps big bad around, bing bang wahoo he won!
It sounds like it that, but even more formulaic and stupid.
>>
>if i burrow deep into this niche for a specific subtype of autist it will lead to mainstream success
not how anything works. the audience you gain within the autism niche will not be interested in your other work, in fact if they even look at it they will be butthurt that it doesn't fit the hyperspecific mold they are comfortable with. the romantasy comparison is wrong because "chad wants me so much" is mainstream female wish fulfillment and not an autistic niche.
>>
>>24749087
Op here I think the numbers appeal to autists
>>
>>24749090
You don't realize just how popular these webnovel genres are. They are already mainstream, in a sense. You're correct that it's mostly a closed system, but that doesn't mean that the path of honing your skills while striving for financial independence in a "niche" is unviable.
>>
>>24749012
>This shit is popular, and it's enjoyable
If you like it, then write it. Write what speaks to you. You're only selling your soul if you write something you don't like solely to cash in on popularity.
You're not going to write anything worth reading, but that's just my opinion. I haven't found a single LitRPG worth reading yet.
>>
>>24749137
>You don't realize just how popular these webnovel genres are.
they are plankton next to romantasy. the comparison is silly. also "i want to make a living catering to a niche" is a different aspiration entirely than what op describes.
>>
>>24749012
>So my plan is to use LitRPG to get my foot in the door, get some male readers, who then might want to see my non lit rpg stuff
That's not how it works. If you build an audience around a genre with rigid expectations then you're pretty much locked in to that genre

men don't read

Honestly OP? I think you're somewhat misguided. I agree that low brow maleslop would be a good entry point to get more men reading, but the issue is the hobby itself isn't as appealing to the male psyche in general. Progression fantasy and litRPG are meant to emulate video games tropes and aesthetics to the written word; but why read them when the games already exist? Meanwhile, women are going to enjoy the narrative and character-dynamics of the written word much more just innately, and no simulated medium really can craft the kind of experiences they want more. I think the "lowbrow slop" genre of pulp fantasy and autistic worldbuilding is what you should hope more men write to appeal to the existing male readerbase.

That's actually most of my other stuff crime horror

Who/what refuted art for social mission and how?
>>
>>24749012
Most litrpg novels eventually devolve to romantasy or some teenage drama.
Another huge problem that litrpg has is it's script like prose. Ever played a western rpg game? When fighting some enemy, did you see a status box in the corner of the screen constantly updating with player actions, like "Player A attacked Skeleton B, took 15 points damage"? That's literally litprg prose.
>>
>videogame mechanics and stats
I'd rather read the arguably even shittier harem romance novels.
>>
>>24749511
Someone post the screenshot of one of those litRPG where there is like 10 textboxes of "X character got 10xp and 5 gold"

Oscar Wilde by being gay, Nabokov by being a freak and Celine by being a fascist.
>>
>>24750212
I’m still ears if you want to explain why any of this has relevance to artists with a social mission today

No, that was pulp novels.

Nta
The world explored in litrpgs cannot be compared to actual games. They are way better than what we currently have ( ex. Mmorpgs in litrpgs are what we imagined the games would be like when we were kids , NOT what we ended up having nwo that we are older)
>>

holy reddit spacing batman, get fucked

>>24751213
No , think Ready Player One but with UI with stats. The protagonist is in a game-like enviroment (vr , fantasy god imposing a system , cyberpunk augments , etc) and it's then a typical sff story.
>>
>>24749012
>Before you tell me to get fucked and write real shit
Hmmmm

>be me
>good/decent writer
>good/decent DM
>exceptional game designer

Maybe I should give this a try...

>>24749012
>fuck you I wanna be a slop merchant for perpetually online trannys and sonic the hedgehog fans because I don’t have the chops to make real art
Do the world a favor and kys and don’t pollute the pool with even more garbage
>>

>Mmorpgs in litrpgs are what we imagined the games would be like when we were kids , NOT what we ended up having
This is the what hooks many people. It's the RPG archetypes but without most of the limitations of IRL computer games.

Anyway who cares? Write what you enjoy and people will read and pay for the privilege if they enjoy it too. If you're a white man you're currently banned from brick and mortar publishing but it's never been easier to get your work out there.

Your writing doesn't deserve publication. Give up and do the world a service by not contributing to this latrine of capitalist excrement.
>>
>>24751944
Judgement on that point is reserved for posterity. Gatekeepers can cope.

your first fan, anon. If you can't take shit like that from crabs and keep writing then this game ain't for you. Now if you can laugh and forge ahead? you have a chance.
