I'm interested in the philosophical concept of heroes and heroism. Are there any good essays or other resources I should read?

I always liked how heros dont really exist until theres a problem to solve and conflict and going through trials but villians just live perpetually regardless and have always been there.

Isn't the idea in the ancient world that Heroes aren't necessarily good ... they're just the ones strong enough to move things?
They get re-appraised as good (or evil) after the fact.

This reminds me of a philosophy video on how Napoleon felt as if he was controlled by a higher power to bring glory to france, and when he achieved his goals that he was immediately cast aside and encountered countless misfortunes therafter, can't remember who it was from however, I think they said something similar about Hitler too.

I feel like in the 21st century individuals have very little value or importance. Presidents, Prime Ministers, CEOs, celebrities, they all come and go and have very little impact on the world. When Alexander the Great died it had a massive impact on his empire, but when Kennedy died he was replaced within a day and life went on. There have always been peasants and serfs whose lives were considered disposable, but now even the heroes are disposable.

It is in the nature of the hero to be disposable. As to why there is lack of modern heroes, well maybe people value their lives more nowadays than back in ancient times.
