Why aren't all the cities on navigable rivers?
Notice how every settlement in Middle Earth is on a river that starts in the mountains and terminates in a sea or ocean
And pic related are all the navigable waterways in the US
>>24751034Because the author is a hack and doesn't understand worldbuilding.
It’s just Scotland and England reversed the fatarse
>>24751063To credit GRRM that is very clearly Scotland upside stuck to Ireland upside with some weird panhandle he freehand dangling off Donegal
>>24751063true
>>24751038It's missing the Connecticut River
>>24751328I think the rivers need to be above a certain size to be on that map, because it's missing the one that goes by denver
>>24751034Because GRRM knows fuck all about about geography and climate other than north = cold and south = hot
>>24751708he probably thinks rivers all flow south
>>24751036Also, that map is aesthetic as fuck.
>>24751068the panhandle for dorn is just the bottom of bongland placed onto the bottom of upside down ireland
If we're going /maps/ I nominate the Nausicaa manga, there's some cool biological diagrams of plants and stuff in there too
>>24751034I would rather have a boring worldbuiling but excellent writing, than excellent worldbuiling but bad writing
>>24752382TIL they don't
>>24753809The issue with grrm is that he does neither
>>24753830wait, you thought the nile flows south from the Mediterranean into ethiopia or kenya or whatever? wouldn't that make the nile all salt water and shit?
>>24753835False
>>24751034Result of tax policy.Backwood cities that might not be real created for money laundering and tax fraud purposes.
>>24753857woah...smart...
>>24751034I love how detractors can only harp on about muh rivers. As if anyone gives a fuck.
>>24753636it’s literally east China and the Korean Peninsula
>>24754439you know humans need water to live, right, retard?
>>24751034In the beginning, the great god RR laid his eon old turd, and he grunted that it was good.It sat in the bowl for seven days or something before the trees and grass and animals started to sprout. Among them were dudes and chicks just hanging out. Some decided to camp in this spot and that spot. No real planning went into any of it. Much the way their great god went about his business.
>>24751034>unnamed.png (1.35 MB, 877x1600)Is there no longer a GRRM/ASOIAF/GoT general thread?
>>24753845>the more she drank
>>24751034Once I saw how the fat fuck made this map I completely lost interest in the books. It’s so completely lazy, just like everything he does.
>Westerosi hate cities, love rural living>Free Cities love cities, hate actual borders>Dothraki hate cities, destroy cities>Yi-tish love cities, hate rural living>Summer islanders are like peace and love man>Brindled men 'ate everyone they ever met The mentality of this planet is all fucked up
>>24751034Cities? There are no cities in Westeros, all of these are castles. The only cities are White Harbour, Kings Landing and Old Town. It is actually weird.
>>24752445the square mountains around mordor absolutely destroy the aesthetics of it
>>24755028>Is there no longer a GRRM/ASOIAF/GoT general thread?Anybody?
>>24757209>Summer islanders are like peace and love manEveryone else you mentioned there are built for Summer Islander BBC.
>>24757209Is it even a planet?
>>24759143Hope not cuz the books are gay and retarded
>>24759143>>24759971To each his own, but I think they're fun and interesting.
>>24751038New York, Houston, New Orleans, (all coastal) and then a bunch of irrelevant barely populated places. The mormons did not need rivers to build the 80% of all wealth and prosperity in America for which they are responsible.
>>24757217castles in the middle of nowhere guarding nothing
>>24760043new york and new orleans are both on rivers and were the 2 most important ports until china started exporting tons of shit
>>24760199The map doesn't even show the Erie Canal (Albany, to Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo). The Saint Lawrence Seaway took over traffic from the canal in the 1960s but from 1825 it was the main water route between the Atlantic Ocean (NY City) and Chicago/midwest.>>24759143If you search 'fat' in the catalog you'll usually find /grrm/.
>>24753809Game of Thrones is crap worldbuilding, crap writing, and no planning so is unfinishable. He would literally decide what happened by rolling dice.
>>24751034Britain, which Westeros is clearly based on. Note how all the cities are on waterways?
hmm, in Australia every city and town is built around a river too...
>>24760256>The map doesn't even show the Erie Canal (Albany, to Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo).because it isn't operational anymore or at least not operational by commercial vessels
