Are you actually supposed to be able to retain all of the information you've read after finishing a reading session or even a page?

Like, I understand what occured or what the author is trying to get across, but I can't reliably recall the finer details.

I can recall basic main points and various facts and bits of information. I wouldn't be able to quote anything from, for instance, the very last book I was reading, but I would be able to tell you quite a few of the main ideas and concepts from my last reading session.
