oh fuck I totally forgot I was in the middle of reading something five hours ago.

You don't have ADHD you are just a zoom zoom with a beyond raped attention span from activities that provide short term gratification as well as long periods of institutionalized boredom from public schooling.
t. zoom zoom with a beyond raped attention span who experienced all that

Go exercise until you can't anymore. You'll be be able to concentrate better after and probably fall asleep 5 minutes after you start reading.

>calling a rape victim someone who had sex at an inconvenient time
I mean technically that's true
>>
>>24755463
>>24755713
I think this is mostly true. ADHD is a real thing but American culture, the culture which produces the most people that think they have ADHD, is boring and depressing, and it also churns out the most media which is consumed passively rather than actively, i.e. television and films.
When you read a good book that you really like, you won't want to stop reading it. If you have to get up every ten minutes, ask yourself if it's more likely that you're bored by the book or that you have a neurological disorder.

kind of surprisingly stupid board based on the responses in this thread.

Reading great literature has probably been the most rewarding hobby I've ever taken part in. Just a smidge above boxing.

Sorry friend your "handicap" isn't real. No one cares about why you suck, just that you suck.
>>
>>24755440
It doesn't really. It just makes it unreliable.

But really if you have ADHD like I do there's a lot of ways to make this easier to do. At the core of it is just disallowing distractions. I do not permit myself to watch anything anymore. The only thing I do on the computer is read or write, no watching.

You got to treat your dopamine circuits as the most delicate flower. Any transgression will ultimately ruin your focus because you threw the dopamine cycles out of loop and became an addict once again.

Ritalin is quite good too. But I kind of hate medication, it makes me feel unnatural and more detached from my emotions.

Micro plastics.
>>
>>24756953
Not really, I used to be the guy doing 75% of the work in 4 man projects at Uni. ADHD diagnosed and without medication studying mechanical engineering.

The core of the issue is being sensitive to stimulus and you really have to model your whole life after what you are trying to accomplish. The main issues I have is repepative shit really. If there's a hard challenge I am always game but tedious repetition makes me a very sad boy indeed.

What you state falls more so in line with people who have fallen to overstimulation. Which is associated with ADHD because we're more prone to do so. The amount of gooners that try to get the diagnosis because they're just lazy doesn't really help.

This board is getting more and more retarded every month.

So you don't have issues with reading then?

I've learnt to drudge through dull tasks by allowing leisure at the end of it. With regards to reading I'd say engaging and immediate prose will make most topics bareable. I read philosophy, but I generally hate it, so I follow it up with something I enjoy.

But really it all comes down to creating a daily routine that is dull enough that even boring reads at least is something to do.

Periodically I struggle with thoughts disrupting my focus when reading. This is usually a good indicator that I have some internal conflicts to mill over. In that sense reading is a good indicator of when I need to set time aside for reflection and meditation.

Reading isn't repetitive or boring on its own. But some writers just aren't very good at what they do.

>With regards to reading I'd say engaging and immediate prose will make most topics bareable.
Yeah, exactly why slop was invented. James Bond books were very much in vogue back in the days, because people had nothing to do. And even now slop is much read than any litfic out there.
>But really it all comes down to creating a daily routine that is dull enough that even boring reads at least is something to do.
In other words, you are trying to increase the value of the reward of reading by reducing the value of the reward of everything else?
>Periodically I struggle with thoughts disrupting my focus when reading.
Kids have that too. They even meme about it.
>I read philosophy, but I generally hate it, so I follow it up with something I enjoy.
So you are try to increase the value of the reward of reading by creating a Pavlovian response whenever you read?
>Reading isn't repetitive or boring on its own. But some writers just aren't very good at what they do.
Except for the "reading isn't boring" part, every normalfaggot will agree with you.
I'd think that they will agree with the "reading isn't boring" if you'll say "not all reading is boring".

I honestly don't see any difference between you and any normal person.
Do you think the average person won't need to change anything in their lives to appreciate a Wittgenstein in their free time? Come on.
Change my mind: if you ask a normalfaggot to do anything in his power to enjoy a Wittgenstein in his free time, he will do all the things you did to achieve that, nothing less, nothing more.

>ADHD diagnosed
There is no definitive diagnosis of ADHD. It's literally just the opinion of a clinician.
>>
>>24757186
Well I am quite old by now, so I have developed safe guards from myself. So me being pretty normal is fair, I have worked at it.

I've had every interest under the sun, I jumped from one passion to the next constantly, I couldn't attend lectures because if the pacing is off I'd just fucking lose it. I can't really deal with more than 3-4 people at once since I get oversimulated to the point that I just zone out (I have no problems with empathy or socializing really). I've been addicted to a plethora of drugs, I've had more women than I've bothered to count. I used to ruin relationships out of boredom, getting into arguments just to kill time. I have no real sense of consequences. Taking LSD while drinking and driving, blowing up trees with some shady cocaine hillbillies, produced some regulated substances in a shed, fistfighting to save an otherwise dull evening.

I have an aggregate IQ score of 138 but and still underperformed massively earlier in life. The tests I had extremely poor performance on was retaining information where they give you a problem description and don't repeat it and the other one was seeing how far you get with a repetitive menial task. My score was beneath 80 on both these tests. So I mean I have some issues for sure, haha.

I do philosophy mostly because I got in one of my moods and ordered a stack of 80 books and now I got to finish them because otherwise I'll just be another Gatsbyian faggot. So I wouldn't say my relationship to it is very normal. I am all or nothing, black or white. But I am forcing grey into my life. Sure it is fun to be passionate and untethered, but once you get older you realize that uprooting your life for the 11th time and moving to different country while picking up a new hobby and social circle is pretty tiring. I long for some permanence.

Not really I still get depressed over how lifeless it all is. Sometimes I want to abandon the comforts I've built and head out on the road with some sleazy chick and get up to no good. But what good will it do in the long run.

I don't care whether it is ADHD or not, but I am some kind of retard, that's certain.

ADD and ADHD were invented to excuse intellectual laziness. If they really exist then physical laziness is some sort of equally fake disorder like LAD or Labor Avoidance Disorder.

And to sell drugs to suckers.
Curing imaginary illnesses is big business nowadays.

I'm guessing you weren't hugged enough as a child, and that's why you grew up to be an internet troll.

Do you watch porn? If you have been watching porn for years your norepinephrine and dopamine receptors have been fried. You have to go no fap. No excuses. You will feel like such shit the first few days but then you'll start to feel better and you'll see these ADHD symptoms will disappear. Make a commitment to start now. Don't wait another day.
>>
>>24758922
why not just go no porn. why nofap? stupid.
>>
>>24758929
No PMO. You have to eliminate it to restore the norepinephrine and dopamine receptors. Good luck.

I have ADHD but I still enjoy reading but whoo boy does it make it hard to actually sit down and do it.

The easiest way to get a decent amount of reading is to do it first thing in the morning before allowing myself to use any tech or watching anything. I read very slowly compared to the average person and 30-40 pages is usually the limit before my brain feels like it has been pummeled to mush and I give into doing something else.

I don't think people here actually understand what ADHD is and are also viewing the issue through an American point of view (pharmaceutical companies selling drugs to children for profit etc etc...)
>>
I read but it's a pain in the arse. I'm constantly trying to pull myself away on to something else, going on the pc, day dreams/fantasies using the book as a foundation for them. Sometimes I just read with my eyes and take nothing in and have to re-read 2-3 times just to get it. Really fucking annoying.
>>
>>24758922
I'm horribly addicted. Been trying to kick it for years. I go weeks to months without watching it but when I eventually relapse I fap like 20 times a day for like a week

>>24759444
Do you guys exercise? Exercise and quitting porn/fap are key. The book attached talks about the benefits of exercising in terms of helping the neurotransmitters. You’ll see immediate results for your attention span if you exercise.

>>24759610
Dude I was you. Go for it, I’m telling you. Go no fap, completely quit porn so your brain receptors can be restored. They’ve been dulled for quite some time so you need a full stop. For me it was a life change. No fap + exercise and you’ll be amazed by the results. It’s actually quite miraculous. Delete your porn, delete those links and start today. Get active, you can start by doing something completely basic like walking everyday and from there you can develop an exercise routine. Start now! Best of luck.
