What books have you recently purchased /lit/? I just got this at a flea market for five dollars.
>>24757559The last book I bought, around 2 years ago, was Les Miserables
>>24757559got this some weeks ago, does /lit/ like this book?
>>24757564did you read it?
>>24757582No.
>>24757586maybe you should.
>>24757602Eh, I'll read it tomorrow.
>>24757574It's nothing special really. I think it is for the most part quite good and paints a picture of Dublin at a certain point in time from many angles. The only story that stood out to me really was the one with the lovers where she tells of a dead old lover... I felt the husbands reception of her retelling was incredibly touching and beautiful. It goes along with this nice presentation of love which I think DFW touches upon in Broom of the system.
>>24757616good luck anon.
>>24757663I've only read Infinite Jest out of of DFW's work, and hosnestly I'm a bit burned out rn, so the "microscopic" and "accurate" depiction of dublin I hear about being in this book makes me a bit scared it might be a hard read for me now.
>>24757729It's light trust me. It really is a laidback read. DFW was only a tangent which occured to me because both he and Joyce raised an interesting perspective of love which I really appreciated which few writers do.
>>24757559digital is the waythis is outdated I need to rerun my automated page counter
On their way I have a Lovecraft collection and Camp of the Saints by Jean Raspail.
>>24759441I'm fine with digital books for stuff I use for reference, or in cases where I cannot easily obtain the book otherwise. But I really do hate trying to read hundreds of pages on a monitor.
>>24759449Thanks for reminding me, I need to order a copy for myself.
I bought the Pléiade editions of>Baudelaire>Valéry>Rimbaud>Verlaine>Apollinaire>Mallarmé>Flaubert>StendhalYes I am insane but they were all pretty cheap The only one I'm kind of iffy about is the Valéry set
>>24759498Oh I've also got Barbey d'Aurevilly coming but I had never even heard of him before I decided to buy his Pléiade edition I bought them because they were cheap and he seems like an interesting authort. read maybe 10 pages of poetry in my entire life
>>24757559Too many. How do I stop buying so many books? I can't afford this.
>>24757786thanks anon . I will give it a read, and I'll wach out and try to capture the aspect of love you've mentioned . is there such occurences in IJ ?
I found a first edition hardcover of Vineland at a thrift store for one dollar.A month ago I found Annihilation (Houellebecq) for two dollars and it looked new.
>>24759850tell me you bought the first edition.
>>24759449>>24759498>>24759850Nice. I also got these recently, just purchased regularly this time. I wonder what kinds of books I could dig up by rummaging around some local thrift stores.
>>24759454Why do Americans buy books when they can't read?
>>24760910Inferiority complex. They think if they pose their chud book alongside their firearm they're impressing somebody like they're some kind of warrior-philosopher, when they're just jingoistic retards.
