Should I do it?I wanna read Hegel but i'm a no-books idiot. Is this actually decent or a meme.
>read 63 philosophy books to understand one guy Why don’t you maybe start with one secondary work and go from there
You don't need to read 60 books but if you have not read any philosophy you will be completely lost jumping into Hegel. Read a decent sized introduction to philosophy and then pick out some individual works you like and then take on Hegel after you've at least read some Kant.
>>24758577I already desired to read everyone up to 26 anyway. The rest seem essential to understanding hegel.
>>24758596most of these are just a few chapters though if you look at the sidebar. While i have no idea how long these will be, It feels like this is doable in 2-3 months

>>24758544A meme. My suggestion is to read the Science of Logic already because it does not require any prerequisites besides your ability to think. The SoL will teach you to read closely. If you can read the SoL, you can demolish any other philosophy book. By the way, the only meme you should fall for is starting with the Greeks. Good luck.
Chatgbt told me to just read this book.can i skip 63 books with it?
Honestly, all you really need in order to not just be absolutely lost is a solid understanding of Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, and broader German idealism in general. You could probably find dozens of introductions to Hegel and every one of them would focus on different aspects of his thought and paint a different Hegel. The truth is that Hegel was the smartest man to ever live by a significant amount and no one has ever really truly comprehended what he thought. Everyone’s Hegel is different although there are similarities between a lot of them. Hegel is an endgame philosopher. Just familiarize yourself with the basics first. How do you expect to understand his critique of Kant’s noumena as both structurally necessary to Kantianism, and therefore Hegelianism, while simultaneously maintaining that it does not actually exist? How do you expect to understand the gravity of what he’s saying there if you have no prior understanding of what metaphysical systems are supposed to look like?

Just read a Mishima or Dostoevsky novel if you’ve never really read anything. Jumping right to Hegel is going to be extremely confusing and a headache to read
>>24758544It's actually a decent list even if you don't ever read Hegel. Understand the history of philosophy and a lot of illusions of the modern world are dispelled.
