It's short, but I enjoyed it.
>>24761032Good histories of Alaska?
>>24761117>"intellectually flabby"The fuck does that even mean
>>24761595YOU HAD BEST UNFUCK YOUR EXEGESIS AND START SHITTING ME CRITIQUES OF THE RELATIONS OF SOCIAL BEING OR I WILL ASS FUCK YOU. IT MEANS YOU ARE A RETARDED FAT BRAIN MISCONSIDERING THE ACTIONS OF THE ELITE AS DEFINING OF THE ERA WHEN THE VAST NUMBER OF SOCIAL INTERACTIONS OF FORCE OR CONSTRAINT IN THE FACE OF THREATENED FORCE WERE CONDUCTED BY ORDINARY MEN. NOW GET ON YOUR FACE AND GIVE ME 25000 WORDS ABOUT THE POWER STRUCTURE OF SMALL BUSINESS IN THE 1870S IN THE DAKOTAS.
>>24761032 I once discovered pre world war 1 historical encyclopedia arranged based on the (geographical) states of the time, of each (nation) states they make a chronological discussion from the earliest record. Make for a really good read compard to the stuff written in the 2000s (these are good stuff compared to what is written today). Also provided with some hard numbers for events in the 1800s.
Does anyone have recs (or preferably a full reading list) for the Gulf War ‘90-‘91? Not the Baudrillard book, thanks.
>>24761032good writeup with many details

The Fall of Paris: The Siege and the Commune 1870-71 by Alistair Horne>The collapse of France in 1870 had an overwhelming impact - on Paris, on France and on the rest of the world. People everywhere saw Paris as the centre of Europe and the hub of culture, fashion and invention. But suddenly France, not least to the disbelief of her own citizens, was gripped in the vice of the Prussian armies and forced to surrender on humiliating terms. Almost immediately Paris was convulsed by the savage self-destruction of the newly formed Socialist government, the Commune.
Any recommendations for Scottish history? I’m looking for anything that’s not just an overview and is post-Robert the Bruce.
>>24763407The quote on the cover has a fucking typo."a more popular SUJECT on the curriculum."How did that get past publishers?

>>24761034>1st post>no repliesFomenko is one the greatest schizo retard truthers out there. Read his wiki page, it's hilarious. New Chronology is his theory that the entire historical chronology and sequence of events is wrong, and we're being lied to be lizard people idk.

>>24771921>being lied to be lizard peopleDid he specifically say that, or did you just throw that in?

Currently reading picrelKinda lost some momentum after finishing prehistory, but will continue after finishing the new testament (almost done)With this book in particular it has been great for my retention to first listen to the audiobook of a chapter and then read it on paper the next day
Best book for an overview of the Nazis (or Hitler personally) from beginning to 1945?
Found picrel today at Oxfam Books, I also bought Chaucers' Troilus and Criseyde, The Prose Edda, The Nibelungenlied, and Aristotle's Ethics all for £15. Am about 30 pages into picrel and enjoying it, I have read works that cite Bede, and watched a short documentary on YouTube about his life, but had yet to find a copy, his is such an important work and he is essentially the Herodotus of Britain. Great stuff.
>>24772491What would you say is the best prehistory book out there? I got picrel.
>>24773164I have no idea. my picrel by J M Roberts is my first time seriously studying history. He has good chapters on prehistory, but as they only cover about 50 pages or so it stays rather high level:- early hominids- homo erectus- homo sapiens and companions- copper, bronze, iron- tools, hunting, fire, tribes, population size and geographyHe ends with the invention of agriculture. One thing I do recommend is to also look into the myths of the earliest civilizations, the pinned thread has recommendations, I only looked into the gilgamesh epic
>>24773046Isn't this book rather anti-Anglo-Saxon?
>>24773201You’re thinking of Gildas’ “On the Ruin and Conquest of Britain.”
>>24761720Interesting, thanks for posting.>>24761032Posting this here since it is a great book on the history of the Americas and it recently got added to Anna’s archive. Before that it was basically impossible to get since it’s in old, extremely obscure, and out of print.
Kind of dense and broad, but a lot of exciting knowledge for people into the steppes.
>>24773489how can I get into Anna's archive again?
>>24773201>>24773480Though Gildas' De excidio was instrumental in Bede's writing and Gildas was Bede's primary source for a lot of information.
>>24773164Exceptionally good. Read it while preparing for UGC-NET last year. Happy to announce I qualified JRF in English Literature in June of this year.
>>24774297Good job. Right now I'm just struggling with getting my BA at the moment, at the ripe age of 43.
book about germany after ww1 and before weimar republic?
>>24775216Its not entirely about Germany but I can recommend Crucible: The Long End of the Great War and the Birth of a New World, 1917-1924. Its a chronological account (ending with Hitler's release from Landsberg) sparse on commentary. Really focused on creating a play-by-play account of a very chaotic time, focusing on Europe. I appreciated how it shows how much of history is based on chance and luck, rather than any overarching narrative or forces.Has a very interesting section on how Mussolini cited Einstein's relativity as proof that Fascism was correct (nothing was stable, everything was in flux).
