i don't think they could really swing pynchon - not because his work isn't good enough, but because they always try and make like the author they give it to has somehow done something soul enriching or worthy and pynchon just writes fun weird books that don't have that nobel vibe they're intoi would personally like anne carson to win, or better still someone i don't know but who turns out to be really good when i check them out
